  • Bearman Cartoons Charity Challenge 2011

    Bearman Cartoons Charity Challenge

It’s time once again for the Third Annual Bearman Cartoons Charity Challenge

Many of you know that I do this challenge each year to raise awareness of my blog while giving money to charities who need it.  Historically, this has been the majority of my advertising budget for the year so if you enjoy Bearman Cartoons, please help by spreading the word on Facebook, Twitter, etc and/or thumbing up on StumbleUpon or Reddit.

Your efforts cost me $336 in year one and $630 in year two of the challenge.  Once again I am issuing a challenge and this year I am going for $1000.   As usual my primary charity will go to help the hungry.  People tend to donate mainly during the holidays, so this is an especially important time of the year to do my challenge because food banks have needs all year long.

As in previous years, the first $500 raised will once again go to the Cincinnati FreeStore Foodbank. This charity does great things not only to feed those in need but also to help families get back on their feet in other ways.   Anything donated above $500 to the max $1000 will go to support the Red Cross to continue relief efforts in Japan.

I will donate the indicated amount for each thing that you do in the month of May:

    • $10 – For any cartoonists who uses ME in a cartoon in their strip.  Use “BEARMAN” somewhere in the toon.  Maybe it’s a character’s name, a name on a bar sign in the background, integrating my green haired gravatar into a background character or even loosely as “Check out that Bear, man!”  Be sure to link back to this post so I know to include you in my tally.   I know some of you work with a buffer so if you plan to post after May just contact me and let me know and I will add it to the list.
    • $5 – Add http://beartoons.com to your blog roll (for those who don’t already have it)
    • $5 – Add a Bearman Cartoons Banner Ad (found here) on your site or if you already have one upgrade to a larger size.  Link it to http://beartoons.com
    • $10 – Blog about my challenge to your readers and link back to this entry in your post – http://beartoons.com/2011/05/01/bearman-cartoons-charity-challenge-2011
    • $5 – Send a picture of yourself wearing a t-shirt from our shop OR send a picture that showcases that you are a BEARMANiac. Photos will be showcased in weekly updates and also appear ongoing in the BEARMANia section.    Last year Lynn blew up the Beartoons banner ad and had fun taking pictures all over Florida.  (Click here to see pictures sent in by last year’s BEARMANiacs)
    • $2 – Follow me via TWITTER updates. (if you aren’t already)
    • $2 – Like Beartoons on Facebook.

If you add me to your blog roll, add/upgrade your banner, include this challenge in a post, or start following me via twitter/facebook because of this post please indicate in the comments. I’ll post a weekly update of the money raised and who did what to raise the money with links back to your site if applicable.

     Thanks for your continued support.

  • New Banner Ads

Beartoons-Political-Skyscraper-160x600 Banner Ad Beartoons-Skyscraper-160x600 Banner Ad

So I finally decided to update my banner ads that might reflect two of the core areas of focus for Bearman Cartoons.  Politics and Pop Culture.

I love how the politics one turned out but not sure if I should have made the pop culture one animated or not.  Thoughts?

(BTW this is just the Skyscraper 160×600 but also made a Leaderboard (728×90) and a Banner Ad (468×60)  that you can check out on the Banner Ads Page

  • Cartoonists for Japan

Several different cartoon related projects have sprung up to support the relief efforts in Japan.

Comics for Japan is asking cartoonists to create cartoons showing their characters donating to the relief efforts and asking them to publicize ways for their readers to donate.  You can check out their site to see who is already involved.

Japan Needs Heroes is looking to create a book showcasing different cartoonists work to help raise funds for relief efforts.

    IMPORTANT:

I posted the American Red Cross link the other day.  I did hear of someone in the U.S. trying to donate to the Japanese Red Cross, only to get hit with Exchange Rate fees from his credit card company.  I don’t know if that is the case everywhere but it might be easiest to donate where they use your own currency.  Peter from Wombania, helped get me started on some of them.

    Miss anyone??

  • Red Cross Banner

Given the massive destruction of property and lives that happened in Japan, people always wonder how they can help. Internationally, the Red Cross does an amazing job in my opinion and I quickly donated and wanted to put a banner linking to their donation page on my site.

I wasn’t happy with the sizes or styles of banners they had available so I created this one. It links directly to their donation page where you can designate your donation to the efforts in Japan.

If you would like to use it as well, all you need to do is grab the following html.

  • Cartoon Roundup

So I have been busy behind the scenes doing cartoons and contributing elsewhere so I thought I would give a roundup of my busy busy life.

First, the Webcomic Alliance, periodically puts out sketch challenges.  A few weeks ago it was “Your favorite Marvel or DC Characters in the classic, “Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil”.”  Now of course I went off template and included some of my favorite cartoon characters that I thought would fill the role perfectly.

See No Evil Hear no Evil

Then our friend Ahmnodt Heare put on his annual “Draw Ahmnodt Week” Challenge.  Never mind that only two of us submitted entries.  But here is my donation to the cause.

    Ahmnodt Heare

Finally Gav over at Boys Will Be Boys put on a cartoon caption contest.  Not only is he yet another Aussie friend (I don’t know how you all find me) but he has good taste and I WON!!  Here was my winning original signed and sent along with a nice message that I received in the mail yesterday.

  • Best of 2010 Recap

Leave it to me to wait until February to do a recap of my blog from 2010. There may be some missing as I had to try to consolidate the info I have since March when I went to self hosting with what I had prior.

So if you are new to Bearman Cartoons, you can save yourself time digging through the archives by reviewing the best of 2010.

    Top Posts (by Visits)

Top Posts (by comments which is more Important to me anyway – even though half are mine)

And finally the reason I do this is for the interaction.  I am so lucky to have all of you take the time to read and keep coming back for more.  I would list the top 10 but three of my top 2010 commenters stopped blogging themselves.   Susi Spice, Lynn, and Robert (SpilledInk – though he still is very active in the comments).  So visit this seven and show them some love on their blogs.  Heck…visit all my commenters.  They are more likely to come visit you than some cartoonists who you put on a pedestal and visit regularly but won’t give you the time of day.

  • Cartoon Roundup

    Metal Jaw Comic

So it looks like I am everywhere this week. I already posted about the guest cartoon I did for Faraday the Blob in honor of the birth of Alan Ryan’s son. Well Roland Perez has decided to sperm one up him by taking a break as NUMBER SEVEN named Samuel was just born.  So I did a guest cartoon for his cartoon,  Z&G (Zombie and Ghost) which you can…

Check out the Z&G Guest Cartoon Here.

    Life According to Tony

Then Tony of “Life According to Tony” (formerly the YNOT blog and 20 other sites when the Tazmanian couldn’t decide what he wanted to be, posted a new cartoon of ME!!  Well not exactly me but of my beautiful green haired gravatar.  So you can…

    Check IT out here.

Finally I wasn’t going to post this because it has NOTHING to do with me.  I begged and pleaded to do the voice over (heck I would have even done the girl part) but Aidan was having nothing of it.  Anyway…he posted a 3 part video series of his comic Scapula on YouTube (I am sure he got rights to that song…heh hem).  Here is part one:

  • Guest Cartoons Needed

December is going to be another busy month and I am taking time off around Christmas so I’m putting out a call for guest cartoons.  This is a great way to promote your cartoons to my readers using YOUR characters.  Since I don’t have recurring characters I tend to choose ways for your to use your characters in unique ways.  I’m adding a second option for those who don’t have recurring characters or who want a different choice.

    WHAT?

Option 1: What if one of your characters was cast instead of the original actor in your favorite tv show, cartoon, or movie?

Option 2: Use ME in a cartoon. Use “BEARMAN” somewhere in the toon. Maybe it’s a character’s name, a name on a bar sign in the background or even loosely as “Check out that Bear, man!”

    How Big
Size matters. Width no greater than 500 pixels. Length doesn’t matter.

    When
From now until December 20. I might post some early depending on response and my own schedule but will let you know.

    Bio
Especially for those I am not familiar with give me a short paragraph on your cartoon/blog.

Send to bearmancartoons ((AT)) yahoo (DOT) com.

    Thanks and spread the word.

  • Webcomics: What’s Cooking

For anyone that has been around a while they know that I do a Challenge each year whereby I ask you to get your friends to follow me on facebook and twitter and in exchange I donate money to support the local Foodbank.

Well long time Beartoons supporter Byron Wilkins of 1977 the Comic has teamed up with Kurt Sasso of TGT Webcomics  for a cause near to my heart – Fighting Hunger.  They have collected food related cartoons and recipes from various artists and are in the process of putting them together a cookbook collection.   The proceeds of the book will support Food Banks in the United States and Canada.

They are now working on getting pre-orders for the low, low price of $20 anticipated the first run will be made around Thanksgiving.  So click here and pre-order yours today.

I know many will ask if I am in it and the answer is “No”.  I did submit a cartoon/recipe but it didn’t make the cut.  HOWEVER, several of the ones who are in the book are well known to regular visitors here so that along with the cause is well worth you shelling out some bucks.
