    Cthulbacca

Cthulbacca by Bearman CartoonsCthulbacca.  What is it?  It is a mashup of what happens when my mind starts wandering before bed.  It is the combination of Cthulhu and Chewbacca.  No, there are no drugs involved in coming up with these things beyond a Zyrtec.

Cthulhu – A deity created by writer H.P. Lovecraft in 1928.  Cthulhu’s anatomy is described as part man, part dragon, and part octopus. (wikipedia).  He is further described as a “pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque and scaly body with rudimentary wings.” (wikia)

Chewbacca – The most famous of Wookiees as highlighted in the Star Wars franchise.

Surprisingly (or not) I figured someone had already done this mashup but a quick good search revealed nada.  So here you go my friends.  Live long and prosper (oh wait that is something entirely different).

  • Game of Clones – Parody Mashup of Star Wars and Game of Thrones

Game of Clones – Parody Mashup of Star Wars and Game of Thrones

Bearman Cartoons Parody Game of Thrones and Star Wars

Next week is the start of the 4th season of HBO’s Game of Thrones.  I am typically not a fan of this type of genre.  Thought the Hobbit was OK and didn’t like any of the Lord of the Rings.  Just not my style.  Yet something attracted me to Game of Thrones that made me a fan.  And of course I always loved Star Wars so “Game of Clones” was a perfect parody mash-up of Yoda sitting on a throne of Clonetroopers (as opposed to Stormtrooper) helmets and Light Sabers.  True fan boys will probably tell me I was off on one or the other but I claim artistic license.

From start to finish this took approximately 6-7 hours over two nights.  One of my most ambitious art projects to date.  An hour was just sketching different ideas of what Yoda would be sitting on.  Had I known what I was getting into when I started I wouldn’t have.  But lucky for you I finished.  🙂

  • Wombie Wookiee

    Wombie Wookiee

Wombie Wookiee by Bearman CartoonsThe Wombie Wookiee is a mash up of Peter Marinacci’s Wombania comic characters and a Star Wars Wookiee (Chewbacca).  It started when Peter sent me this background image of Canada.  Don’t ask me what it is but I said one day I would do something with it.  Then a week or so ago somewhere in the blogosphere, he and I were joking and he mentioned a Wombie Wookie.   So of course I planned on doing it but before I could the illustrious Cha beat me to it.

Anyway here is my version.  If you can’t read the Chocolate Bar he is holding it Says “Wookiee Wombie Bar – May the Chocolate Be With You.

And honestly I didn’t know you spelled “Wookiee” that way until I spell checked myself cuz I know all of you would be all over me.

  • Disney buys Lucasfilm Cartoon

For those of you who follow me on Facebook, Google Plus or Twitter, you might have already seen this Cartoon meme I did of Mickey Mouse wearing a Darth Vader helmet saying “Luke I am your father now!”.   Yesterday it was announced that Disney was purchasing Lucasfilm (home of Star Wars) for $4 Billion.

Luckily for me I had a lunch break yesterday and was able to get on top of drawing this before all the other meme’s started their way around the internet.   I had a blistering 142 people share this on Google plus and a few on Twitter/FB as well.  Now if I could only get my normal cartoons to do so well.  Maybe I should just do cartoon meme’s from now on.

  • Beware The SIxTH

Star Wars Beware the Sith of May from Bearman Cartoons

Today is the day.  Beware of the Sith day.  All over Google Plus on friday I was unindated with posts about “May the Fourth Be With You” in reference to May 4 being Star Wars Day.  So of course I couldn’t go with the masses and needed to blaze my own trail.  Thus Beware the SIxTH of May.  Several people questioned me because there is already a “Revenge of the Fifth” but honestly with the typography and play on Sixth/Sith, mine is way better.

  • Avatar and Sci Fi Conventions

1 14 10 Bearman Cartoon Avatar Sci Fi Convention Avatar

My first encounter with anything close to a Sci Fi Convention was when I worked at a movie theater and we were doing a Star Trek marathon of the first four movies back to back.  People were dressed as Klingons, as Kirk, as spock and as other random characters.  However the one that made me actually laugh out loud was the 4 foot 10 inch woman dressed like a tribble.

Now with Avatar taking the world by storm will it also take over Comic-Con and other Sci Fi conventions?  I am foreseeing alot of blue body paint being sold this year and some of the models won’t be so pretty.
