Democrats and Justice Roberts

Editorial Cartoon: Democrats and Justice Roberts

The Cartoonist Studio Editorial Cartoon Contest continues and I made it to week THREE!  Thanks to all for voting.  Click the image above or here to go to the voting.  You should do a search of “Bearman” and my cartoon will come up front and center and then vote.  Some people were clicking the link and then accidentally voting on the first thing that popped up.  Unfortunately no way to direct link to my cartoon.  Again, as long as I stay in the contest, there will be two editorial cartoons a week to vote on – Mondays and Thursdays.   Oh and you can vote multiple times in each round if you want (resets every six hours) until EOD Tuesday.

Today’s editorial cartoon is in honor of Chief Justice John Roberts.  Seems ever since he has been nominated to the Supreme Court, Democrats have chastised Roberts for being a right winger.  There was even speculation during President Obama’s Inauguration that Roberts purposefully flubbed the lines Obama was reciting during his Oath of Office.

Well last week Justice Roberts shocked both sides of the spectrum when he joined his more liberal justices in upholding what is affectionately been known as ObamaCare.  Now Democrats are going to have to reevaluate their thoughts on the Chief.

Good one Bearman. I really thought that Supreme Court Justices were not supposed to vote along party lines anyway. Of course that doesn’t mean I liked his decision but I do respect him for doing something the Supreme Court has failed to do for decades. He honors the separation of powers. Congress makes the law, the executive branch is to enforce the law, and the Supreme Court is to hold the law to constitutional standards. (They have no law making power constitutionally).

  6. Ha!
In my mind they jump into a large dark sedan with tinted windows and tear off with tires a-squealing…
    🙂

  7. Reggie says:

Roberts’ contorted logic and twisted vote is the biggest setback for separation of powers in our time. But it could have been far worse – he could have agreed with the liberals that congressional power to create interstate commerce exists, when it clearly does not. What he accomplished was to bring the liberals around to admitting such authority under the “commerce clause” does not exist, nor has it ever existed. He also paves the way for further constitutional challenges by affirming the government’s tax argument, since this law was not enacted in the very specific manner in which tax laws are required to be handled. They must originate in the House of Representatives, whereas ACA was drafted in the Senate.

Thanks for commenting Reggie. Well maybe this was a hidden concerted effort to drive support for those against Obamacare over to Romney.

  8. Comedy Plus says:

For me it’s just another tax gimmick. Also, down the road Obamacare will be referred to as just another entitlement. That’s what they call Social Security and Medi Care. Sigh.

    Have a terrific day. 🙂

    • Bearman says:

I am all for repealing it…but Romney better come up with something better instead of just saying he is going to repeal it.

Week Three Yeah! I just voted! I always pull up your name and cartoon first and than vote. Setting my timer for six hours and counting. :+) That’s great your work is very deserving.

    • Bearman says:

Thanks Starla….wow so 6 hours from now is 5:36 and six hours from then is 11:36 and six hours from then is 5:36…when do you sleep?

  10. George says:

I’m glad Roberts did the right thing even if it went against what was expected of him. Even if he has has own agenda, the Democrats need to remember the folks who came through for them. This time.

Well, let me go vote for ya! 🙂

  11. Too funny. Sometimes I wonder just what each party is thinking, then I remember they are all nuts, and there will always be something to bitch about. Neither side is ever really happy.

  12. Although I’m happy he upheld the healthcare law, I still think that his Citizens United ruling was a travesty, and I can’t forgive him for that. I believe by the time this election cycle is over, after these multi billionaires have flooded the airwaves with political ads (which people hate anyway), maybe Americans will realize what that Citizens United ruling was all about. Allowing this kind of money into the political system is a REALLY bad idea!

It’s not too much of a stretch that Roberts voted for ACA, when the whole concept of the individual mandate was created by the conservative Heritage Foundation, and proposed as an alternative to “Hillarycare” in the early 90’s.

  13. Mark Stokes says:

Great job, Bearman! Love your Democrats!

  14. Scott says:

I’m okay with socialized healthcare (it’s a necessary evil, at this time)–as long as I have the choice to use private healthcare insurance instead. If that choice is ever taken away, I’m outta here.

  15. At least it was a hoof kick. Those really hurt!

  16. Nate Fakes says:

This is a pretty obvious pun, but yea – I bet they feel like an ass now.

  17. Tony McGurk says:

Now they gotta try to unbruise him.

  18. Tony McGurk says:

  21. Bo Lumpkin says:

    Happy 4th of July.

  22. I’m digging the new political angle on the site, Bearman! It’s risky and topical.
