Bearman Cartoon: Part Timers

The latest editorial cartoon was inspired by the budget issues in my home city of Cincinnati, Ohio. It seems like many cities, the economy is affecting city services. So now there is talk of having to lay off over 100 police officers.

Funny we have a part time city council and yet they continue to take over $60,000 a year in salary. I am sure there would be plenty of people willing to work full time for that kind of pay.

  1. D. Long says:

$60,000 for part-time work on a city council? That’s ridiculous. Ah, the wonders of people who legislate their own salaries…

  2. George says:

Who’s gonna protect the council people from the unruly mobs now? I hope they can run fast!

  3. Phillyzero says:

That’s horrible that policeman are might be laid off :/

  4. Nate Fakes says:

Cincinnati has always been ass-backwards. They’re worse than Dayton!

  5. frigginloon says:

So who’s getting laid…sorry I came in half way through the conversation!

  6. yorksnbeans says:

Have the police lock ’em up for highway robbery!

  7. Sheila Deeth says:

So much for “public” service. They can probably afford private security on their part-time salaries. Maybe they’ll hire the police-men to protect them from the mob.

  8. Sweats Model says:

Funny how that works, isn’t it? And so predictable. Brings to mind the healthcare reform bill, and those people who would be exempt from it…

  9. The system is backwards everywhere. Teachers, police, emergency response. They should all be paid very well. Those positions should be sought after and competed for so the public has the best possible protection and education.

  10. spilledinkguy says:

Hahaha … yup. That seems about right. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Byron says:

Yeah, it’s the same every where. The very members of Congress/Senate who are against health care reform HAVE insurance… so what’s the problem with the “average” American? Can’t they afford it? Just have a bake sale, it’ll be fine…

    I hate politics… ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice comic Bearman! Someone’s gotta say this stuff!

    • Thanks B…but if I have a bake sale won’t that be contributing to the diabetic nature and obesity of the world causing a greater toll on the healthcare world?

  12. Tony says:

I’ll gladly swap them my full time job for their part time wages…
City councils never cease to amaze me with the stuff they come up with. Sack 100 cops then they will have to spend more money to have a study into why crime increase. What a bunch of dolts
