  • The Expendables Cartoon

    The Expendables Cartoon

Today folks is a special treat.  As I typically struggle with just one caricature in a cartoon, this week I had FOUR.

Sylvester Stallone’s new movie, The Expendables, was released on Friday.  It’s both a whos who and a whos that of action films.  The main guy in this cartoon is former Everybody Hates Chris dad, Terry Crews.  Before that show (and to some of you now) he is one of those “That Guys” in Hollywood where you might not know his name but you definitely have seen him in plenty of movies including the classic “White Chicks”.

But as I got to thinking about the other cast, they are known for either being misunderstood, monotone or mumbling their lines.

    – Stallone – Mumbler
    – Arnold Schwarzenegger – Misunderstood
    – Li – Mumbler (and sometimes Misunderstood)
    – Roarke – Mumbler and Misunderstood
    – Jason Statham – Monotone
    – Dolph Lundgren – Misunderstood
    – Randy Coutoure – A who’s that unless you are a UFC fan (and I have never heard him talk)
    – Stone Cold Steve Austin – A who’s that unless you are a Wrestling fan (but he has great mic skills)

So I could see Crews in this movie saying he wasn’t expendable as even the enemy needs him to interpret what these other guys are saying.  Yet I love all these guys movies because I am an action junky.  Though I think they should have included Richard Roundtree.

  • The Taco Truck of the Future

Bearman Cartoon Wired Magazine Taco Truck of the Future

This cartoon was inspired by Wired Magazine.  Each month in their issue they ask readers to consider what different products will look like in the future.   Then, they combine all the most popular elements into a feature on the final page.

This month they asked what the Taco Truck of the Future would look like in 2025.  When you combine mystery taco meat and rolling food carts, I don’t think this truck should wait that long.  They need to start production right away.

So help me out and upvote it on their site.  They don’t make it easy to find my entry but here is what you need to do.

    1.  Go to this page on Wired.com

    2.  Scroll down to the entries and by “Show Entries that are” select “new”

    3.  You should see my cartoon as one of the first.  Depending on your screen settings you may need to scroll the box right to see the arrows.

    4.  Click the up arrow and viola….er voila (or for you non french  Wa Lah!)

  • Editorial Cartoon: Cincinnati raises Parking Meter Rates

8 7 10 Bearman Cartoon Parking Meter Rate Increase

Two things happened this past week in Cincinnati.  First council approved a controversial plan to build a street car in the city.  I’m not going into the good and bad of it per se but once again Cincinnati tries to follow plans of other cities to promote tourism while never seeming to lead the way.  One reason it is controversial is because opponents say that fares will not cover the cost to operate the streetcar and the city will continually have to pony up money to keep it in business.

Secondly, they decided to double the parking rates in downtown from $1 per hour to $2 per hour.  While not New York pricing, this is one of the highest in a 250 mile radius.  On top of it they increased the rates for city garages.  So let’s see…what was the plan to bring more people downtown?

What stuff does your city do that you question?

  • Comic Con now Hollywood Con? – Cartoon

Bearman Cartoon How Hollywood took over Comic-Con

Something painfully obvious I know but this article in the LA Times (hat tip to Alan of the Daily Cartoonist) laments the takeover each year of Comic-Con by Hollywood elite hoping to get a strong internet buzz for their latest endeavors.

For those who go, do you feel the loss of the way it used to be or is it better for smaller exhibitors because what you lose in focus you make up because if the sheer number of people.

I have never been to a comic convention and even with the proliferation of webcartoonists that exhibit at them these days, I will probably not ever be one of them.  Face it, political cartoon compilations are not what fanboys are clamoring for.  Maybe if there’s ever a newsie-con, I’ll be setting up shop between Rachel Maddow and Glenn Beck who are there trying to hock their own books.

  • Bearman Cartoon: Wonder Woman’s New Costume

    Wonder Woman Naked

The internet has been abuzz this past week with DC comics decision to revamp the Wonder Woman struggling franchise by giving her a makeover.  Personally I think the top they chose looks too much like Spiderman.

But it got me thinking what would a comic book geek really want a redone Wonder Woman to wear.  Well that and my naked Marge Simpson did so well that I thought my stats were due for another titillating post.

Thanks to Mack at Area 51 Comics for the idea as part of Twitter #TuesdaySketch.  The idea behind TuesdaySketch is that the moderator chooses a topic on Monday night and anyone that has a chance showcases their sketch.  Of course this week was on Wonder Woman’s new wardrobe.  Check out all the submissions for this week.

  • Bearman Cartoon: Bristol Palin’s Speaking Fees

Bearman Cartoon on Bristol Palin and her Speaking Engagements

I am a firm believer in allowing private family members of public figures to be removed from public scrutiny.  That is UNTIL they themselves decide to become a public figure.   It was announced last week that Bristol Palin (daughter of former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin) is going on the speakers tour to talk about “don’t screw up and have a kid like I did as a teenager”.

Reports are that she will get between $15-30,000 per speech.  That really busts my chops.  Why weren’t my parents more popular?  My life could be so much easier.

  • Orgasm Emoticon

    Animated Orgasm Emoticon

So Dave and Scott were lamenting the other day that there is no Orgasm Emoticon.  What purpose they may have for that in correspondence is between the two of them.   But they called me out (head down to comment 18) and even though I thought there already was some equivalent I figured I would oblige.  Besides anytime I post something remotely sounding potentially pornographic I get a spike in activity.

Want an even bigger laugh. Robert at Spilled Ink blogged about my charity challenge today.  Go check out the look on his cartoon face.  (I can’t figure out how to link to a particular post on his site so it is the 5/17 posting if you show up another day)  Check out the expression in the last panel.  Look familiar. Now there is a BEARMANiac…hahah

  • Bearman Cartoon: Where’s George

Bearman Cartoon of George Bush lying on Beach as Obama Takes a Beating in the Press

Noel Curry of DJ Bogtrotter fame had a challenge to cartoonists to do a cartoon without dialogue.  He designated May 14 as Dialogue Free Comic Day.  This is what I originally planned to post as he said dialogue on signs, etc was OK.  But I came up with one that may be a little less obvious but fits the entire bill that I will post on Friday.  So that is TWO…count em TWO Dialogue Free Comics for your enjoyment.

  • Bearman Cartoon – Wind Farm

Bearman Cartoon Wind Farm Hazard for Birds

With the oil spill heading toward the coastline of Louisiana, the call for expansion of wind farms and the use of them as alternate energy streams already is getting loud.   Careful jumping in with both feet…especially if you are a bird.

UPDATE:  Check out the guest cartoon I did for Carlo Jose San Juan at Callous Comics.  Story of Riann Nicah a newly practicing physician.  Some get guardian angels; well she ended up with Cal, a guardian duck who is as new to the guardian position as Riann is to the medical field.   Great thing is, Carlo’s day job is a real physician specializing in nuclear medicine.  So not only does he shame me in the drawing world, he shames me in the real world too.

And thank you Carlo for the mention of my charity challenge.  Want to get involved too?  Please click the pic below to find out how you can help with no cost to you.
