Bearman Charity Challenge 2010

It’s back!!  Last year, thanks to your efforts you cost me $336 to charity.  Once again I am issuing a challenge and this year I am going for $1000.

This year the first $500 raised will once again go to the Cincinnati FreeStore Foodbank.  This charity does great things not only to feed those in need but also to help families get back on their feet in other ways.  The need is great this time of year because people tend to donate more during the holidays.

Anything donated above $500 to the max $1000 will go to support the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati in their fundraising efforts.

I am issuing this challenge to help raise money.  I will donate the indicated amount for each thing that you do in the month of May:

  • $10 – For the first 20 cartoonists who send in a guest cartoon (see below for what I am looking for).
  • $5 – Add http://beartoons.com to your blog roll  (for those who don’t already have it)
  • $5 – Add a Bearman Cartoons Banner Ad (found here) on your site or if you already have one upgrade to a larger size.
  • $5 $10 – Blog about my challenge to your readers and link back to this entry in your post – http://beartoons.com/2010/05/03/bearman-charity-challenge-2010
  • $5 – Send a picture of yourself wearing a t-shirt from our shopOR send a picture that showcases that you are a BEARMANiac.  Photos will be showcased in weekly updates and also appear ongoing in the BEARMANia section.
  • $2 – Follow me via TWITTER updates. (if you aren’t already)
  • $2 – Become a fan/like Beartoons on Facebook.

If you add me to your blog roll, add/upgrade your banner, include this challenge in a post, or start following me via twitter/facebook because of this post please indicate in the comments.

I’ll post a weekly update of the money raised and who did what to raise the money with links back to your site if applicable.

Call for Cartoonists to provide Guest Cartoons

Taking some time off in June so looking for guest cartoons to fill the void.  Obviously I don’t have recurring characters but last years call to highlight your characters in new ways was well received.  So here is the challenge.  Replace the actor(s) in your favorite movie/television show with one or more of your characters.  Submissions can take the form of fake posters, single panel or strip.  Keep submissions within 600 pixels wide.  Here is just one example from the Family Guy (obviously doesn’t need to be that in depth).   If you need inspiration, check out my recent post on recreating 35 famous movie posters.

Thanks for your continued support.

When you make it a challenge you really make it a challenge don’t you? Now I am going to have to sign up for facebooka and twitter and I had already been planning to make mention you in a blog. It is all for a good cause and I salute you for the good work you do.

    1. Bearman Avatar

Thanks Bo. As always, I appreciate all the support. Maybe do Mildred as Glady’s Kravitz from Bewitched.

      1. Bo Lumpkin Avatar

I don’t know diddley about Bewitched or Glady’s Kravitz. I am planning a complete reversal of what you do. You take real people and turn them into cartoons. I am going to take Buster and turn him into a real photograph. How will that work for you?

Oh, man! I can’t wait to see what I come up with for this year’s! I’m so excited!

I am thinking Hank as Leatherface would be nice.

      1. DadaHyena Avatar

        Does Hank like headcheese?

I don’t use many networking outlets but I revived my facebook account long enough to “like” you. Is that the same as being a fan? I couldn’t see a “fan” button

    1. Bearman Avatar

Yes. They changed “fan” to “like” I know it is confusing. Thanks for being a “liker”

  4. DadaHyena Avatar

Ohhhh, a guilt trip, eh? Nice of you to take advantage of my Catholic upbringing!

Challenge accepted. Look for a guest cartoon from me sometime soon!

Count me in, Bearman. I’ve got so many ideas – now I just have to narrow them down (what to choose, what to choose …)! 🙂

George Hamilton in Zorro the Gay Blade.

      1. SpilledInkGuy Avatar

That just missed the cut … but just barely … just barely!
Anyway, think I’ve finally made up my mind – now I just have to make the thing (hope I can do it – I think it’s got potential to be … okay-ish)! 🙂

        1. Bearman Avatar

Okay-ish is a step up from what I do so go for it.

Great idea, Bearman. Will you be donating retroactively?

I’m going to do a freestyle guest cartoon just for you. It will be just as good as my sculptures…maybe even better!

    1. Bearman Avatar

Retroactively to what?? I’ll take guest sculptures.

Just so you know, I finally registered on facebook and I clicked on your like you button. I also wrote a blog that mentioned you but I left home without putting it on my portable drive so I will post it Thursday on my Gatorhead site. All you people doing all these good deeds are causing me to do a bunch of stuff I should have already done. Thanks.

      1. Bearman Avatar

Nah…I do little. What amazes me is seeing the people who regularly volunteer at these organizations.

  13. Darryll Avatar

Great website! Thank you for being someone who is willing to spend the time and effort to raise money for worthy causes. While he doesn’t have Downs Syndrome, my son is severely physically and mentally disabled. We are in the process of trying to afford to build a house that will help us better attend to his needs. While I’m not an artist, I have tried to support our financial needs by taken a stab at writing a book that I hope will help us raise enough money to build. It’s called “My 70’s Book”…

    1. Bearman Avatar

Darryll thanks for stopping by. I saw your book featured on Cool Stuff for Dads website. Anyone a child of the 70’s, may want to check out Darryll’s book.

All the best in your efforts and in your son’s health. Thanks for stopping by and don’t be a stranger.

  14. Sheila Deeth Avatar

You certainly make a fun challenge. Does this mean I’ve been following you for a year?

    1. Bearman Avatar

I think you started last June in my last one after a call from Claire Collins who has since disappeared to become a book selling entrepeneur.
