So here is my continuing efforts at trying new things related to drawing. This is my caricature version of Peter Dinklage, known to Game of Thrones Fans as Tyrion Lannister. You can see the beginnings as a simple pencil sketch, then I added watercolor and ink to the image and finally pulled it all into Photoshop to color it.
This is probably the longest I have ever worked on one image, only because I am learning some new techniques as I go. Might tweak the color some more but here is where it stands now.
This is freakin’ amazing, Bearman! I didn’t know you had it in you, even though I’ve seen the video footage.
Seriously though, this is some pretty impressive work. I think you’ve been holding back on us all these years. ๐
That was the first time I actually drew with a pencil in years. YEARS. You know me…slap some digital ink on the digital canvas and go. This was a frickin’ process. One I can say I did and now I wonder how long before I try it again. haha
Thanks
Should not wait so long. This is amazing.
It’s an excellent piece of work. You should be very proud. I can’t imagine what else you need to do to make it better. I’m just saying.
Have a fabulous day. ๐
Thanks Sandee…have a great week.
This is perfect, bearman. You need to pick up a pencil more often! <3 Only thing that's missing is a pic of the guy for comparison. You know for Luddites like me who don't watch movies. (But I did do an image search, and your work is spot-on!):`D
Thanks Jande. Maybe I will start taking a sketch book and pencil on vacation with me.
I really like the image, and the style you did it in. Though I have no idea who he is.
I guess I should have linked you. https://www.google.com/search?q=tyrion+lannister&safe=off&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=0Bd5UajTNKSmiQKJmYG4AQ&sqi=2&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=675
I didn’t know who he was either, but he looks just like all them photos in the link…great job!
Thanks Deb
I still don’t know who he is, but you really captured him and did a great caricature. I vote you do more of these!
You just want to send me a way for a while..haha
I figured if I keep you busy and offline, some of your fans would drift over to my place.
Don’t know this guy, but he looks PISSED.
He has daddy issues
Too cool, he has that 1970’s action star look!
Thanks Lisa
Looks just like him too. thanks for showing the process. Ya know, his last name is perfect for him (giggles)
But I always want to say Bannister
Brilliant!
Thanks Jim
This is spectacularly well done!
Thanks V
Yeah. I haven’t seen ‘Game of Thrones’ yet. Go figure.
Doesn’t matter, though – this is AWESOME, Bearman! I’m particularly impressed by the washes / watercolor bit… I don’t know how you do it. Trying to control water is something I’ve never been able to do. Man… I sure hope you do a lot more of these… your technique is impressive, but I really, really dig your style!!! Definitely one of my favorites!
๐
Obviously I couldn’t control the watercolors either. The hair turned out too dark and I couldn’t pull the watercolor off the page b/c supposedly I used the wrong type of paper. But everything can be fixed in photoshop
This is Awesome! Really, really impressive!
Thank you thank you
At the beginning I drew by pencil and the first time I tried electronic I put the pad away in shame for 90 days. As my drawing skill improved, I noticed that it did faster in pencil than electronic. It has taken a loing while to reach the point I am right now, which is better than yesterday, but hopefully worse than tomorrow ๐
I’m trying to say that your caricature is great and you should keep on working on a skill that you obviously have. How to go about this is something only you can figure out, though.
Doodle on, my friend!
Yes…I may try it again for a celebrity caricature in the future but I am skipping the watercolor step..haha
This is phenomenal. I love the progression. I think there are far too few who appreciate the work which goes into a great caricature.
Thanks..I left out the 4 times I ripped up my paper and started over
Nice work! (Thought I don’t know the guy.) I guess I need to check out this Game of Thrones business.
Only HBO show I watch
That looks wicked! I wouldn’t change a thing. Great job!
Thanks Bill
Sheez, he looks bigger in real toon. Great one Bearman.
Life size even..
Those eyebrows alone should have their own drawing! Very well done, Bearman!
Thanks Mark
Love it, Bearman! I’ve never seen Game of Thrones, but Peter Dinklage is my favorite.
What have you seen him in?
I know nothing of this Game Of Thrones of which you speak. But one thing I do know is that you’re an incredible Caricature Artist. Fantastic work on this one my friend.
Thanks Tony. Might not have gotten your way yet.
This is brilliantly drawn Bearman,
well all of your cartoons and drawings
are awesome so this latest one just
adds to the genius that is your artistry ๐
Have a great Monday Bearman ๐
Thanks…it better be for the time invested. haha
Now can you make one of him slapping joffrey
I was going to go with Rob Stark given his hair..hah
Well done! I haven’t seen Game of Thrones yet, but the drawing is pretty good!
Thanks Jerry
Wow Bearman, awesome artwork. I don’t know who the dude is either and he looks scary enough that I probably don’t want to know.
I have always known that you were a first class artist though.
Thanks Bo
I went back and looked closer. He is even scarier than I thought. He looks like a young Ted Kennedy.
Again, very good! You’re getting these down well. For some reason, I feel like if it were in black & white it would be very NewYorker-ish. I can’t put my finger on it but it reminds me of a Harry Bliss looking cartoon.
Now you are talking over my head..haha
Heck yea! Tyrion is a boss. Good rendition of him, too.
Thanks T
That’s a really good caricature! And I love the fact that you’re still learning new techniques. ๐
Thx cha. It is fun
