  1. What has happened is so ugly and violent that no image can be harhser than that…very depressing the state of affairs ,the state of human heart..they way people play with guns and take lives..

  2. Brilliant Bearman. Thoughts and prayers to all involved, including the killer’s parents who are also victims in this tragedy.

  3. Not too harsh an image for me–just poignant.

What amazes me most is that everything in the cartoon looks like a cartoon, except the blood–which looks almost real. Excellent work.

  4. Deb

Thoughts and prayers for all involved.

  5. Unfortunately, Batman has now been criminalized. I’m off to vote!

  6. Very nice sir. I read a good word of advice from Ty Templeton: do not watch or read anything about the shooter. If he gets his name remembered and gets recognized, he gets what he wants. Honor the victims and their stories. Know him only as “the shooter”.

    • Thanks Warren. Which has bugged me since it came out that most of the talk has been about the guy or gun control. Let’s remember the victims.

Hope your anniversary dinner went great.

  7. The scary thing is that there is no way to protect people from crazy. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. Good job Bearman.

    • Yet we spend our time talking about gun control versus mental health issues when this happens. As you said, hard to protect people from Crazy.

      • Too many violent crazies out there.

      • As i said twice today on two other sights concerning this sort of thing, The only thing that can stop bad and crazy people with guns is good and sane people with guns. Sadly sometimes it is hard to tell the difference.

      • Bingo! That’s always what I say in these circumstances: who saw the signs and signals before-hand. As a teacher, I know we see early signs as early as kindergarten. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough funding to get the proper help for everyone. I can tell you, every teacher that I know helps fix the problem to the best of their ability.

        And yes, dinner was fantastic!

  8. Words really can’t express the sorrow that goes along with such a senseless tragedy. I think your cartoon says it all.

  9. Well done sir! Not harsh at all. Truth is sometimes hard to hear or see, but it needs to be said/seen.

  10. Good job, Bearman! Very poignant image.

  11. Very nice job, Bearman.

  12. Very well done and very well said. We live in such a crazy world.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  13. A fitting tribute, Bearman. Well done.

  14. I found it very moving actually. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go flush the estrogen out of my eyes! [blinks]

  15. Nicely done Bearman. I agree with Warren. Too often these psychos are given too much attention by the media which no doubt makes them feel important in their own sick twisted minds. The innocent victims & their families are the important ones to remember. To do such a thing is a disgusting way to make a name for himself. He’s a piece of lowlife scum, nothing more, so lets hope the media remembers that.

    • Already they are hashing out the fact that he dyed his hair red like the joker. I already don’t care about him or his fate.

  16. This is haunting and beautiful, in both your work, the message and the tragedy. Voted for this on The Cartoonist Studio.
Thank you so much for creating this Bearman.

  17. Very sad and very tragic. The unfortunate thing about the movie is that it will now forever be associated with someone’s very sick and twisted act. Just like the movie “Taxi Driver”.

And I agree with you and the Governor of Colorado, to call this sick F by his name is to give him what he craves.

    Don’t feed the need.

I think it is fine not too harsh. I think it a willingness to face what happened honestly. It is so Sad. Watching the gunman on TV yesterday was so strange.

I voted. Great job on doing so well. It’s nice to celebrate your successes with you.

  19. starla

By the way, the blood on this cartoon looked so real!

  20. One of the things that keeps me coming back here is your basic decency, Bearman. The image you created for this heart-rending topic has class. That’s something rare these days. It’s a simple beautiful visual statement that extracts the essence of what happened, mourns the victims, and makes the heart ache. Every time I look at it I cry a little. I like the touch you added by leaving out the word “Knight” on the ticket. Thanks for this, Bearman. <3
Also: voted. I've been trying to make up for lost time in the voting.

  21. Gah! Sorry, but I meant to say you left out the word “Rises”. *thumps forehead* Can you fix that for me please so I don’t look so much like the old fool I am? :`P

  22. This was a great tribute, Bearman. Tasteful and heartfelt.

  23. I wish the media wouldn’t broadcast this guy’s face and name. Too much attention.

  24. Well done. As a Colorado resident and a fellow webcomicer…thanks for keeping it classy.

  25. Tragedy in an unlikely and horrifying situation. My heart goes out to them and great tribute…

  26. I think it is a fine tribute, everyone has different ways of remembering.

  27. It was a crazy, shocking, and sad thing man. Any memorial is a good thing, and yours is top notch.

  28. This new Batman movie will always be tied to the shooting. It’s too bad. It will be ten years from now…”The Dark Night was a great film….remember the shooting?”

  29. boo.

    awful.

    not your cartoon…

srsly, can’t even believe all that. evil.

  30. Cha

    Nice design.
But I agree, awful and tragic story… poor people. How can we let that happen? :(
