Why Google Plus is better than….

Why Google Plus is better than Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and Digg

So it is no secret that I have been somewhat neglecting my friends on facebook, twitter, etc because my time on social media has been taken up by Google Plus.Β  While it of course has some limitations I wish they would work out sooner rather than later, the above cartoon pretty much sums up why it is better IMO than other social media.

As always let me know if you need an invite.Β  And for people who have recently joined who are lost, ahem Bo Lumpkin, a fellow cartoonist Debbie Ohi has created a nice page with links to help get you started.Β  You can find it here.

Ok. I’m prett much caught up on mot of my comic-making so now I have a little time to go investigate this Google Plus thinamajig. I hope it’s not to convoluted or complicated. I hate starting stuff over again and rebuilding networks.

Love the cartoon. It really helped convince me to give it a shot. πŸ™‚

    • Bo Lumpkim says:

Thanks Bearman. If it weren’t for you I would still be postin’ my stuff on the Bo Lumpkin site and just wonderin’ if anyone ever read them. Going to the site to learn more now. Again… Thanks.

    • Bearman says:

Look me up when you get there George.

Bo, the key is to put something in your “about” page and put up a couple posts so when you start following them they look back at your page and know it is a real person so they’ll follow you back.

  2. I am finding G+ to be a great place for discovering artists and asking questions. You also don’t seem to miss as much if you aren’t around for a few hours… much easier to catch up!

  3. Tom Falco says:

I still can’t figure out Google plus. I have two accounts on hold, pending the day I have the patience to delve in and figure it out.

  4. Brad says:

There is a much friendlier vibe to Google +, it’s true. At least that’s true as of right now.

  5. CDowd says:

Love Gplus. My only concern is the names policy. But, the pros far outweigh the cons.

  6. Bo Lumpkim says:

BTW Great comic. You nailed it. I checked out that site and I think it will be a lot of help. I hope to get a chance to look at it this week while I have the internet available.

    • Bearman says:

Great. Make sure you use a browser other than explorer. For some reason notifications don’t show up to let you know if someone added you or responded.

  7. Duncanr says:

Great toon, Bearman – especially liked the dig at Digg !

  8. MC/Curtis says:

I could use an invite Bearman and thanks for offering. I’m not a social networker (or a social person) but I’ll try it for the sake of ButterSword. I bookmarked the tutorial because I’m a computer bozo so thanks for that link as well.

  9. 25BAR says:

    SOOOOOOOOOO true!

  10. Maybe some day…
    maybe… some… day…

  11. Tony McGurk says:

I signed up from the invite you sent me but after a while couldn’t be bothered with it so I deleted. After doing my comics, replying to comments & keeping up with all the people’s sites in my RSS Reader I simply don’t have the time for social networks. They just don’t really interest me that much either. Your cartoon portrays it well.

  12. Nate Fakes says:

I guess I’ll have to check out Google Plus. As of now, I like Facebook. I don’t touch Twitter, because my Break of Day post automatically to Twitter – taking care of all my updates. Reddit, Stumble Upon and other like it, I feel really didn’t do much but sometimes bring in people – but rarely did they come back, and I still haven’t figured out how to be popular on it. What it boils down to is I actually use Facebook for people I know, Break of Day fan page and Twitter for promotions. With my big launch tomorrow, I’m trying to drive traffic to Break of Day at GoComics, so I need to brush up on Google +. (Wow….this was a long comment for me!)

    • Bearman says:

It is interesting. I have a new set of people who comment on my stuff strictly on G+ who don’t comment here. Kind of like I comment on your facebook stream and not on your site directly because I can’t be bothered with yet another password to remember.

      • Nate Fakes says:

It’s that way for me to. Facebook rarely gets comments, GoComics get a handful…we’ll see what happens with the website and the new launch (yes, you secretly discovered I have – yet again – a new website for BOD).

  13. Good thing I just signed up for google plus, I’d hate to end up like the dig guy.

  14. Mark Stokes says:

As a dabbler in all of the above except Google+, I have to say this strip NAILED it! I couldn’t scroll down fast enough! That’s some choice observation and damn funny stuff! As one of the Google+ uninitiated, this is certainly a nudge for me to look into it. Hysterical, Bearman!

  15. Comedy Plus says:

I don’t care for Twitter or Facebook so I doubt I’d care for Google+. Just saying. Enjoy every minute.

    I know ‘I suck’.

    Have a terrific day. πŸ™‚

  16. Friggin Loon says:

They won’t let me friggin play on Google Plus πŸ™ Bastards say it is all full up. I have my suspicions that they just don’t want me πŸ™

  17. jynksie says:

I find google+ redundant. I rarely use it even though I’m on it. I prefer twitter, where my mindless inanity has a place to thrive. o.O … google+ almost demands you be witty and actually constructive. I get enough of THAT at work!

  18. MJ says:

    Ha,ha,ha! Top shelf funny!

  19. James says:

The Reddit one is my favorite. Nothing like trolls to tear apart any kind of creative output.

  20. DadaHyena says:

No Myspace? A bunch of porn “stars” trying to add you and random jackasses posting advertisements on your wall?

  21. You had me at “hi”. I have just started using google+ and haven’t given it much thought but I love the google+ reader.

    • Bearman says:

That is how I follow all my favs is using the Google RSS REader. Saves a whole lot of time versus clicking on links like I used to do.

  22. Scholar Mel says:

The Reddit one is so stinking true! Why does it seem that everybody on Reddit has a board stuck up their butt??

  23. Luemas says:

Hmm.. I’ve been wanting to go to Google+ for a while, see what it’s like. If you’ve got an invite… that’d be great.

  24. bschooled says:

I can’t keep up with all the social media applications. It’s like a full time job. By the time I figure Google+ out, they’ll have come up with a Yahoo+(with extra jazzhands!)

  25. Jay says:

Once Google+ gets Farmville, I’m out.

  26. Sheila Deeth says:

They should pay you for that cartoon. You’ve definitely got me wanting to look into it.

  27. lisleman says:

Have you read about Mrs 4444 problems with G+ – interesting name policy over there.
I agree it is better than FB but I still use FB.

  28. Very funny take on the new social media site on the block. I have been neglecting all social media sites lately. Hard to find the time lately.

    • Bearman says:

That’s because you are a working man. Wait, I am a working man too. I must be neglecting my wife. I’ll be right there honey.

  29. Binky says:

I have no idea what you’re talking about. But this beach sand is nice and soothing on my head.

  30. Jason says:

It seems like Beartoons is a social media site unto itself. So many comments to read through. Nice toon!

  31. stop it. it’s not gonna happen.

i’m not going over to the plus side

  32. Well that explains it. I have Digg…and don’t even know how to use it. πŸ™

    Great job!

  33. I am still not convinced of Google Plus

  34. Jillsy Girl says:

    You Google+ Snob! πŸ˜‰

  35. I have a Google+ account, but I am rarely on it so far. I had Facebook for a year before I used it on consecutive days.

  36. Bo Lumpkim says:

So far I am liking it. Thought I would have more time this week to check it out but spending a week in my home town has kept me busy with kinfolks and old friends. It has been great though.

  37. 25BAR says:

You really like G+, don’t you?

  38. alecho says:

Hahahaha, funny punchline even though I’ve never used Digg before. I’m trying to use Google Plus… still learning πŸ™‚
