  • Obama’s Secret Weapon

Bearman-Cartoon-Obama Wins Because of Hurricane Sandy

Wouldn’t I have had egg on my face today if I had drawn today’s editorial cartoon and my prediction that President Obama would win was wrong?   Well I was right.  If you asked me 10 days ago, I would have gone with Romney.   Interestingly none of the pundits are talking about how the poll numbers moved back into President Obama’s favor after his several visits to the East.   As I allude to in the cartoon, he finally showed the leadership that has been missing in the past several months.   HOWEVER, if the election were another two weeks away, it may have swung back to Romney with the issues surrounding recovery and returning to normalcy.

Hopefully the President and the Republican lead House will be able to reach across the aisle and actually start compromising on some issues and do the job we need them to do.  Four more years of posturing and sticking their heads in the sand isn’t going to do a damn thing for the country.

    UPDATE

Christina of Pop Smoothie sent me this picture of an Obama bobblehead doll she got at a Cincinnati Cyclones Hockey Game.  You can see Obama wearing the Cyclones jersey! Nice.

  • Romney Cuts off Head of Sesame Street

Romney Cuts off Head of Big Bird by Bearman Cartoons

Whoa!  What are you doing posting an editorial cartoon on a Tuesday you ask?  Well my friends this is a two part experiment.  The question in the experiment is can I piss off both my liberal friends and conservative friends using the same cartoon on two different days.

Today’s cartoon might of course irritate some of my more conservative friends.  Seems since the debate, candidate Mitt Romney has been taking flack for his assertion during the debates that he would consider cutting funding of PBS, the broadcaster of shows such as Sesame Street.   There have been memes galore floating around on social media blasting Mitt for it, but I thought nothing said it better than Mitt Romney holding a knife in one hand and the head of Big Bird in the other.

So how could this possibly irritate my liberal friends?  Well you have to wait until tomorrow to find out.

The Cartoonist Studio Editorial Cartoon Contest continues and I made it to week FIVE!  Thanks to all for voting.  Click the image above or here to go to the voting.  You should do a search of “Bearman” and my cartoon will come up front and center and then vote.  Some people were clicking the link and then accidentally voting on the first thing that popped up.  Unfortunately no way to direct link to my cartoon.  Again, as long as I stay in the contest, there will be two editorial cartoons a week to vote on – Mondays and Thursdays.   Oh and you can vote multiple times in each round if you want (resets every six hours) until EOD Sunday.

Today’s editorial cartoon is inspired once again by Presidential candidate Mitt Romney.  Don’t know if the Maury Povich show is shown outside the United States but he has a daytime show in the U.S. that can’t be missed when you are home sick from work.  What Jerry Springer is to fighting and getting naked on his show, Maury Povich is the king of Paternity tests.  Deadbeat dad after deadbeat dad come onto the show swearing they never even slept with the mother of a baby in question.  Maury’s typical phrase is something like, “When it comes to baby Jessica….George Ford, you ARE THE FATHER!”, causing the “new” dad to be in shock and the baby’s mom to stand up pointing in his face telling him “I told you so, I told you so”

It came to me this week that Mitt Romney is a dad trying not to claim his responsibility for Obamacare.  When then Governor Romney was in office in Massachusetts he passed almost the exact same program that Obamacare is based on.  And yet throughout the Republican debates, he only would say what works in Massachusetts wouldn’t work for the rest of the country.  Now he is promising to get rid of Obamacare if elected.    Instead, I would prefer him say, “Sure I passed this.  Here is what was right about it, and here is what is wrong.   And THIS is what I will  change to make it better for everyone.”   If anyone has heard him say it, please link me to the article.  Would love to eat my words on this one.

The Cartoonist Studio Editorial Cartoon Contest continues and I made it to week TWO! Oh and you can vote multiple times in each round if you want (resets every six hours) until EOD  Saturday.

It seems like every presidential election cycle their is a candidate the press/pundits like to point out is wishy washy or indecisive in some way.  John Kerry was known as the flip flopper and now the mantra has been passed down to Mitt Romney.  I was reading this quote from Leo Tolstoy which inspired today’s editorial cartoon.  Tolstoy was a Russian writer in the 1800’s who is famous for writing War and Peace and also inspiring non violent movements such as used by Gandhi and Martin Luther King.

I don’t mind a politician changing his mind on issues.  I guess it is better than standing your ground without being able to be persuaded.  But changing your mind is a far cry from consistently being indecisive.

  • Conservatives and Romney

    Editorial Cartoons: Conservatives and Romney

With today’s editorial cartoon, I have no doubts that a conservative would never vote for Obama to spite Romney.  However it is true that many conservative groups are calling on him to move to the right or lose their support.  So isn’t that really the same thing?  Tony Perkins (no not the actor), of the conservative group Family Research Council said this:  “And so if the party is moving in a different direction, we are not going there.  The only reason there was an alignment with Rick Santorum from our constituency is because Rick embraced the ideas, the policies and the principles that our organization and our constituency believes in…If they don’t, they’re not going to get the unbridled enthusiastic support that Rick Santorum enjoys.

So maybe they don’t vote for Obama but more likely just don’t vote.  If you have choice between supporting a guy who agrees with 50% of your beliefs versus one that supports 0% (obvious exaggeration), wouldn’t the logical thing to do is try to get something out of it?  Or do you enjoy bitching about the country for another 4 years?  I guess I will never understand the mindset of the far left/right.

On a different but not necessarily lighter note, I did a caricature tribute to Dick Clark this week.  New Years Eve won’t be the same without you (and please no Mayan jokes…I have heard them in every form the last week. haha)

Editorial Cartoon: Mitt Romney Turns 65

Former Governor and current GOP Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney turned 65 this week proclaiming that he would not enroll for Social Security payments or Medicare.

For those unfamiliar, AARP is an organization in the States that has huge interest group focusing on those above 50 on age related issues.  It was formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons.  Historically in the U.S. the retirement age has been 65 though you can get your AARP card which offers discounts on travel, restaurants etc long before that age.  In fact I knew a 30 year old once who had her card.  I guess all you need to do is send in your money and boom, there it is.

Oh and Denny’s is a national chain of restaurants that specializes in breakfast food.
