Wasted Vote for a third party or write-in candidate or spoiler for certain parties candidacies? Everyone blames Ralph Nader for Gore losing the 2000 election but no one tends to bring up the fact that if it weren’t for Ross Perot, we probably would have had another Bush Sr. term.
Electorally it looks like Hillary Clinton should have a lock on the election. But assuming it is close as it was in 2000 and a third party candidate should win just one state allowing for neither Clinton or Trump to reach 270 Electoral Votes. Then it goes to congress to decide among the top THREE electoral vote getters. Given the disdain for Trump and the fear Clinton could spell doom for the Democrats in 2020, Congress may want a third party to give them time to fix their own parties over the next four years.
What say you?
Just one state, eh? Fraz to the rescue!
Quickly
The last third party candidate to win a state was George Wallace in 1968. I actually thought a third party was going to be started back during the primaries by Michael Bloomberg or another top Republican. Didn’t happen. I read that Utah might be up for grabs to the third party Evan McMullin. It was interesting that the Chicago Tribune (history of being Republican) would not endorse either Trump or Clinton. They endorsed Gary Johnson. I still believe Hillary will win. What scares me some is a civil war breaking out afterwards.
Ross Perot didn’t win a state but he got about 18% of the vote. They wasted that party with the next election
My candidate Isn’t on the ballot, so I’m writing it in. Wasted or not, I vote my conscience. The choices are getting worse and worse with each election. Maybe its time to apologize to the queen? [cough] …and ask the Indians if they want their land back? [hoy-ya hiya-ho-ya] [someones gonna bitch about this posting, just you watch!] [grin]
Mine wasn’t either…but they will blame us for blowing it. 🙂
I am quite ready for this election to be over!
Amen
I’m certainly hoping so. From what I understand, there is a 3rd party candidate from Utah (conservative/moderate Republican) who is on the ballot in roughly 20 states who just might be able to take a state or two out there.
Well that went nowhere sigh.
I think we might have to start voting for things which are tangential to the candidates platforms. For instance, if I wanted a spike in pant suits, I’d have to give my vote to Hillary.
Personally I don’t know if I have the legs for a pantsuit
Waste not, want not.
I waste a bunch and still want more
