Coingate

Hillary Clinton Coingate Editorial Cartoon

Today’s editorial cartoon is brought to you by the lovely American practice in some states known as a Caucus.  The one in Iowa has social media spreading a new hashtag – COINGATE.

In several districts in Iowa to break the virtual tie between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Primary, officials ended up flipping a coin to determine that districts winner.  Out of seven districts that came down to the coin toss, Clinton won six of them.  Oddsmakers are skeptical.

NPR claims that a fact check of the situation says that the story isn’t entirely true as the conspiracy theorists.

What a stupid way to determine a winner of an election or even who gets that odd numbered delegate.  Then again we are the country that brought you hanging chads in the 2000 Presidential Election.

Wait’ll you see what we do in New Hampshire to determine the winner! [smirk] We skewer them, flambe them and then serve the one’s who weren’t burned to a crisp to the American people… leaving it to you to determine if they taste mothy, or not! [wha-la]

  2. Bill Murphy says:

I say make them do a fifty yard dash against each other to decide the winner.

I didn’t hear of this one thanks for sharing. Also, I’m glad you included the NPR link – good but lengthy explanation. I learned something. Those media reported delegates are not the estimates of number after county and state conventions. Also learned that Mississippi had a state Legislature seat picked by drawing straws! Nice drawing but Hillary is missing a finger – tough campaign?

What ever happened to the good ol’ fashioned caged death match?

I used to think America was a democracy.

I’m seriously impressed that you remember the hanging chad debacle. The way today’s world operates, we’re lucky if we can remember things one year ago, let alone a decade and a half ago.

The race this year is so crazy and almost surreal I can’t wait until we get down to the final two candidates. 🙂

  8. This election season is almost like a movie! I can’t wait to see how it all ends!

I was lost for words (figuratively of course otherwise I wouldn’t be leaving a comment) that the winner of an election could be decided by a coin toss. Why hold an election at all then?. Cut the inconvenience of election campaigns, advertising, fake promises, muck raking & the actual voting process & just toss the coin to begin with & save everyone the hassle & bull**** that goes along with it all.
Maybe they could mint special 2 headed election coins with the leader of each party’s head on each side
