Ladies and Gentlemen. The man you see pictured above is Nate Fakes. Mad Magazine and Break of Day cartoonist Nate Fakes. And hands down, the worst person in the world for me to try to caricature. If it is the first time or the 20th time trying I can usually get to some semblance of the person even if the end result isn’t flattering (sorry Myra).
But there is nothing distinguishing about this kid. Here are several of my failed attempts. The first being the one that probably looks most like him but the last being my favorite.
Bearman, this isn’t a caricature fail! Whatever. I love em’! They’re actually quite flattering (considering I’m not cussing out my drawing table or something and SMILING when drawing…whew…that rarely happens). Thank you, sir! I will be passing these around for sure.
Great. Now all your friends will hate me too. haha. Glad you see a resemblance in there somewhere because I don’t.
You’re being way too hard on yourself. I think all three are awesome. I can see the resemblance.
Have a great day. 🙂
That makes two of you.
I like the second one best
Always gotta go against the grain huh..haha
My fails make your fails looks good. 🙂
No way. But it does remind me of a joke.
Best way to lose weight isn’t to diet..it is to hang out with fat people. You don’t lose any weight but you look skinny compared to your friends. Sadly in cartooning, I am the “fat” kid.
If you took a little of each feature off each picture, you will nail his “look” These are really good though!! You have captured his nose quite well! 😉
Especially in 3. I swear, that’s about the length of it!
I was going to do a whole pinocchio thing.
If the first one and the second one got together and had a baby it might resemble him more than either of the parents. 🙂 but that would be kind of weird.
Look who came out of the woodwork. Good to see you. Nate would make a weird parent. But that would be a good thing.
I think the third one captures Nate the best.
It’s hard to characterize someone if there’s no truly discernible features. Or if you don’t wanna expose those features by drawin’ ’em.
Plus, Nate doesn’t rock a unique, out-of-the-norm hairstyle or have facial hair or features that you can latch onto.
All in all, I think you did as good as you possibly could have, and that’s still lots better than the rest of us could accomplish.
So what you are saying is that Nate is so vanilla he is hard to caricature. Hear that Nate?
Me? NEVER! Why….
Sheez Bearman, the first one looks like it could be a Mad Magazine toon.
I know…that’s why I put What Me Break instead of What me Worry on his pad.
I like the second one best. Gut you should have added the red devil eyes.
It IS interesting how different people see things.
It’s true. The devil eyes usually don’t go away.
Red eye reduction camera!
You need dark shades to hide your inner devil.
Whoa! Go easy on yourself. All 3 of these drawings are great!
Deb xx
Thanks Deb but they can’t all look like him. haha
Oh, no, but they do!
I’m glad you see that. And I can’t believe your wife picked number 2. That is getting more traction than I thought it would.
Who knew Nate had TWO twin brothers?!
🙂
The secret is out!
He is the creative one.
I like the first one the best. It looks like a cross between Nate and Alfred E. Newmann… sorry Nate!
It’s all good. Maybe I can make the cover someday!
I thought the same thing Jerry. It’s those big cheeks both of em have.
The last one almost looks like my caricature brother. 🙂
High cheek bones run in the family.
Good job!
I think the first one resembles him the most.
The nose in the third one reminds me of Nixon. … Richard Milhous not Mojo.
Mojo used to work at WEBN in Cincinnati.
I think all 3 are great but like you the 3rd is my favourite
About time someone agreed with me.
I agree. About the third one.
I agree, too. The third one is best when counting backwards from negative one.
I like the third one and it also shows his gravatar. It also displays the most Bearman style. I’m going to head over to his website and see what he’s doing.
He is a busy busy man.
i like the first one the best. They are all good tries though.
Unlike yours which I got on the first try.
its cause i am easier on the eyes! lol
The last is my fav. too.
Thanks Tom
The third is the charm, Bearman. One thing I’ll point out, in that one you made his ears much bigger and his face fuller, closer to the real Nate Fakes. Might I make a suggestion? Nate’s neck is thick, this guy is definitely no pencil neck! Looks good, though just as it is!
Good observation Mark. Nate HAS A FAT NECK!!!
Heh, I’d have to say to go with the third one! It’s the most different out of the three you’ve done and still resembles him (IMO). Great versions all in all!
Thanks Jenn!
I see no fail! Well done!
Thanks H.
