As the masses gather at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to pay their final respects to Michael Jackson, I couldn’t help but think about what typically happens there. While I know there are going to be those outside trying to cash in on the MJ lovers, I wondered if inside the Staples Center it would be business as usual with concession stands open and them selling official programs. Sad state of affairs if so.
This was the background of the latest editorial cartoon.

Sad but it’s probably true :/
Ditto on Philly’s comment.
I’d be more surprised if it weren’t true
Sounds about right 🙁
The creepiness does seem … yeah. That is about right. 🙂
Wondering if anyone will show up here that was there and can provide the scoop.
good cartoon bearman and probably true. the spectacle of it all saddens me. the daughter that spoke was completely broken up and called him daddy. wow, i don’t know what i thought but i never thought i’d hear that.
From what I’ve seen, it seems that people really behaved themselves well considering it was a funeral as well as a circus side show. It could have easily swayed the wrong way very quickly.
This is so true. His funeral and overall death was like one huge, as Claire said, circus. It always seems that when celebrities die it is a week of madness.
I’m sure there was that, and balloons! Can’t forget the balloons!
I have absolutely no doubt that the staples center had everything open, and made money off the whole thing. I think the only people who wont make money off this is California.
Nodeath tax in cali?
I’ve already had offers to create a couple of MJ paintings. Would I be callous to do so? These folks wouldn’t have even wanted one before June 25th. Or would I be considered no better than an ambulance chaser?
If someone asks you and u make money I say great. I would only give you crap when I start seeing you selling velvet mj’s in the gas station parking lot.
haha. thats hilarious. and probably true.
gee, wonder why there was no open casket?
Why would u want one?
some people want one but i’m sure the family probably didn’t want to take the chance that the paps wouldnt take photos….hence making more money..and on and on..
Family most likely had one at the private ceremony but thankfully closed it from the pap and gawkers
Just to be different I’ll say “Not a chance!” They have far too much respect! Give your head a shake.
Shake shake shake.
Ha Ha Brilliant cartoon, cold beer, dead body, comfy funeral parlour chairs. It just don’t get any better than that 🙂
Soon the circus will leave town… Yeah, right! The dead guy has legs. Oh, and I saw him at a burger shop yesterday. Dead? No way, my friend…
Goes along with my MJ and Elvis Impersonators cartoon from last week. There will be many sightings.
The death of any great person is always exploited by those who can. The times dictate just how far the exploitation goes. In this case, I wouldn’t be surprised if his body wasn’t dug up and pieces sold on ebay.
BTW, I should have them parts up in a matter of days.
Wouldn’t that be interesting given rumors around Michael buying the Elephant Man.
What did you think of the 1.4 Million it cost LA to provide security for the service?
Think they made it up in taxes of tourist gauker spending?
I don’t think they got as many tourists or gawkers as they thought they would.
Did he un-die yet so he can be like Elvis and we can have ‘sightings’ for the next several decades?
