  • Bearman Cartoon: Nicolas Cage Burial Suit

Bearman Cartoon - Nicolas Cage Superman Pyramid

So actor Nicolas Cage has decided that despite his financial issues and inability to reign in his purchases, he would prepare for his final resting place the best way he saw fit.  By purchasing a mausoleum in Louisiana shaped like a Pyramid.

It is no secret that old Nic fancies the man in tights either.  He wanted to play the title role when the Superman franchise was remade and his fanboy love drove him to name his son Kal-el (Superman’s real name from Krypton).  I am all for preparing so your family isn’t stuck with the bill and you can make sure your final wishes are fulfilled.  But, couldn’t you sort out some of your financial mess first.  I guess whatever he spent is just a drop in the bucket of the $14 million in taxes he currently owes.

  • Bearman Cartoon: April Showers…

Bearman Cartoon April Showers Bring May Allergies

Finally responding to Jill’s call for taking the phrase “April Showers Brings May Flowers” and showing what it means to me.  In Cincinnati it is a well known fact that if you don’t have allergies when you get here, that you will once you stay for a while.  Pollen season is going like gangbusters here already and my eyes are a little itchy.

And don’t forget to vote for the caption cartoon contest.

  • Health Care Caption Contest – Time to Vote

    Healthcare Bill Caption Contest Cartoon

The entries are in and the top five have been chosen. This was a very scientific method that involved algorithms, spreadsheets and asking my wife which she liked best. I had to reword some due to size limitations but the nominees are Carlo, Dave, Tony, Friggin Loon, and Roland. Good luck and start the voting. I’ll announce the winner on Friday.

  • Guess Who?

One of my achilles heels is drawing caricatures of actual people. I can whip out an entire cartoon in an hour from start to finish as long as I don’t have identifiable people. Those can take me an hour each just to sketch them out.

Starting to work on a large undertaking and this guy is in it. Let’s see if I came even close. Can you guess who this is????

  • Health Care Cartoon Caption Contest

    Healthcare Bill Caption Contest Cartoon

Ever since Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi stated so eloquently about the Health care Bill, “…we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it…”, I have been questioning what exactly was in the bill.  Now that it is passed of course the add ons are coming out.   Included is a rider that now effectively eliminates the banks as a middle-man for student loans.  Instead the loans would be provided by the government.  Again this was in the Health Care Bill!

So what else do you think will come out that was hidden in the Health care Bill?  Are you funny?  We like funny?  Submit your thoughts in the comments section.  Next Monday I’ll post my favorites for all my readers to vote on.  The winner will get a signed copy of the final cartoon and have their banner ad posted to the right for at least 2 weeks.

If you don’t have a banner ad already on my links page, why not?  Send me a link or the banner (125×125).  Don’t worry if you have a blog/site but can’t make the banner.  If you are the winner, I’ll also make one for you.

Bonus points for people who promote this contest on your own blog, facebook or share via one of the social bookmarks below.  (just let me know in the comments).

Remember, your entry doesn’t have to be anything related to health care.  Also anyone know what is meant by a “Hidden Mickey” (the title of the toon)??

  • Hot Tub Time Machine & Craigslist

Buying a Hot Tub Time Machine on Craigs List

John Cusack has a new movie out called Hot Tub Time Machine where he and his friends go back to the 80’s.  This cartoon was inspired by a conversation with a friend who wanted to know if someone would buy a used mattress on craigslist.  Craigslist is an online classified ad site.  I figured anyone would buy anything on craigslist and a quick search proved me right.

    Which suggests many questions:

    –  What is the weirdest thing you have bought online or saw for sale online?
    –  If you could go back in time, what year would you go back to?
    –  If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger self (and no using the obvious around giving yourself ways to make easy money like lottery numbers, stock tips, etc)?

  • Editorial Cartoon – Toyota Prius Acceleration Problems

In the market for a new car?  This is a great time to buy a used Toyota and especially a Prius.  Sudden acceleration problems have been blamed in over 100 different crashes.   But it seems people are blaming Toyota for their accidents, even when it is driver error

So now, if you are the owner of one of these gems, you have a window of opportunity to blame Toyota for your crash, even if your dumbass shouldn’t be behind the wheel of a car in the first place.

  • Bearman Cartoon: Daylight Savings Time

This cartoon was inspired by Jill at Elemental, My Dear Blog.  She asked people to capture the phrase “march comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb” in words or pictures.  I of course think of March as the end of Winter and the beginning of Spring and of course Daylight Savings Time.

Not only does it mean I lose an hour in my day but it also means that it will stay lighter longer.  All of which makes sense to me even though we aren’t farmers who need the extra light anymore.  What kills me is actually in the winter when we push back the clocks an hour.  All that means to me is that it is dark when I go to work and gets darker that much earlier so I come home in the dark too.

What’s even crazier is that some locales in the States honor DST and others don’t.  So some cities that part of the year are an hour behind are now the same time.  I always forget when which makes it fun for when I visit those cities for work.  I am either on time or an hour late.

What are your thoughts?  Any benefit to it anymore or should we dump the whole system?

  • Cartoon: International Womens Day

So it seems yesterday was International Women’s Day.   And while some women support the day as a way to highlight the struggles and oppression women face all over the world, other women are saying WTF.  Only one day??
