  • Stand up for WWE: I’m with Vinny

Stand up for WWE - I'm with Vinny

Last week some of you may recall I posted about Surya Yalamanchili, only one of two federal candidates who were not accepting Political Action Committee funds in their campaign.  The other was Linda McMahon, former CEO of the WWE.

Well as Linda’s campaign took on steam, it seemed the press and politicians decided to take pot shots at her via the actions of the WWE.  Smartly the company has created a viral campaign to Stand Up for the WWE and responded to allegations against it.

So given that I continue to have wrestling fans visit my site because of my WWE Signs (and being used in wrestling stories), I decided to help in the viral campaign with the above image of Linda’s husband and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.  (Any similarities between “I’m with Vinny” and “I’m with CoCo” design for Conan O’Brien by Michael Mitchell are strictly coincidental satirical.)

So wrestling fans, feel free to download the image above and use it in blogs, facebook, twitter etc.  You do not need to give me credit (though it would be nice) but you may not sell the image or put the image on any items for sale (ie t-shirts).

Would be hilarious to see “I’m with Vinny” signs popping up at WWE events.  Use the contact button above if you need a higher resolution version (about 2.5x the size of this one).  I’d be happy to send.  And keep me posted on how you have used it.

  • Editorial Cartoon: Yonni Barrios – Wife and Mistress

This ones for Nobbly.  Seems our friend Yonni Barrios had two women keeping vigil for him as he spent 70 days trapped in a mine in Chile along with 32 other miners.  His wife and his mistress of ten years.  Whoops.

Supposedly his wife did NOT choose to meet him when he got out because he invited her and the mistress.  So this is the “lovely” mistress???

  • WWE Signs

As promised (or threatened), I am posting all of the signs I made for the live WWE Raw taping on Monday night.  I can now say that my work has been seen on worldwide television as they made it all over the telecast (see below for links).

With the exception of Orton and Sheamus, I aimed to focus on those who tend not to have many signs made but who I could guarantee would be there.  Here they are with explanation of who they are for the non-wrestling fans:

    Randy Orton:

Made for the female fans (and held up by a female), Randy’s finishing move is called the RKO. Here is the sign and a shot of him from ringside.

    Randy Orton - RKO ME

    Sheamus:

The first Irish born WWE Champion.  Hated by the crowd and loved by me, he is called the Human Jar of Mayonaisse by fans and fellow wrestlers because of his whiteness as he goes against type and does not spend time in the tanning bed.

    Santino Marella:

Less known for his in ring action and more for his comedic bits, Santino is a fan favorite but you don’t see many signs of his. He wrestled in a match for Thursday nights airing of Superstars so remains to be seen if this sign made it.   There is a group of newbies that go by the name Nexus.  The slogan on the back of their shirts is “You’re either Nexus or against us” ergo:

    Santino Marella Nexus spoof Sign

    Mark Henry:

One of the most underutilized wrestlers today.  Has won the Worlds Strongest Man contest and while he was a “bad guy” was unstoppable.  Now as a “good guy” he is lost in the shuffle.

    Mark Henry Oh Henry Sign

    Michael Cole:

Ringside play by play announcer for the WWE.  Michael tends to get little respect from the WWE universe but I think he is great and wanted him to get his due props.  One of his classic lines during any match is to say “Vintage ______ (fill in wrestler’s name here)”  So I created this:

    WWE Michael Cole Vintage

I then cut out a rectangle and attached a round piece behind it with different wrestlers names so it could be fitting for many different matches.    See what I mean with this image:

WWE Announcer Michael Cole Caricature saying Vintage Cena

(the crowd silhouette, I got as free stock from somewhere but can’t find where I wrote it down.  If someone comes across the source, let me know and I’ll add it)

    On Camera Moments

For an official WWE pic of the Orton sign click here and go to pic number 12 of 17.

For an official WWE pic of the Mark Henry sign click here and go to the last image (number 19) and look behind Edge’s left elbow

See the Mark Henry sign in video action here and go to 1:54.  You’ll see it right behind Edge.

  • Mosque “at” Ground Zero Cartoon

This was actually based on a conversation I had with someone about the proposed Mosque to be built a few blocks from Ground Zero in New York.  Unfortunately, as the media tends to do, they keep referring to the proposed center as the Mosque AT Ground Zero.  When I asked the person if they would be OK if the Mosque were built a few blocks away, she said yes.  I said, “well that’s the plan anyway”.  Then she backtracked and came up with more reasons why it shouldn’t be built.  To which I replied, “How far is far enough?”.

Matt Sledge of the Huffington Post did a nice article that showcased that you can’t see the proposed site from Ground Zero and even if you came via the subway, you would have to go out of your way to see the Mosque.  So for all the arguments against it, which I am open to discussing, can we at least agree that the Mosque will not be AT Ground Zero?

For those concerned about the impact of a sixteen story Mosque that close to ground zero, I have a simple solution.    Build a seventeen story Synagogue and an eighteen story Church right next door.

  • Editorial Cartoon: Cincinnati raises Parking Meter Rates

8 7 10 Bearman Cartoon Parking Meter Rate Increase

Two things happened this past week in Cincinnati.  First council approved a controversial plan to build a street car in the city.  I’m not going into the good and bad of it per se but once again Cincinnati tries to follow plans of other cities to promote tourism while never seeming to lead the way.  One reason it is controversial is because opponents say that fares will not cover the cost to operate the streetcar and the city will continually have to pony up money to keep it in business.

Secondly, they decided to double the parking rates in downtown from $1 per hour to $2 per hour.  While not New York pricing, this is one of the highest in a 250 mile radius.  On top of it they increased the rates for city garages.  So let’s see…what was the plan to bring more people downtown?

What stuff does your city do that you question?

  • Seven Deadly Sins Cartoon: Envy

    Envy Cartoon: Seven Deadly Sins

UPDATE:  GET THIS AND OTHER DEADLY SINS T-SHIRT, POSTERS ETC AT OUR STORE

Day six in our quest to showcase the Seven Deadly Sins in cute devil form.  Today’s topic is Envy.

I really love how this one turned out.  It is probably my favorite of the bunch.  And yet another “sin” that I am guilty of.

I remember looking for houses and setting a housing budget like my dad taught me; no more than 33% of your gross income should go to housing expenses (including mortgage, insurance and utilities).  Knowing the neighborhood we wanted to be in, I kept getting frustrated seeing all these houses that I liked but couldn’t afford with my budget.  I remember asking my wife how the heck all these people could afford these houses and we couldn’t.  She, being the financial whiz she is, replied “Because many of them are mortgaged to the hilt.”  Sure enough when the housing market collapsed many of those same houses suddenly went on the market.

I envy other cartoonists, both in how amazing some of them can draw and how some who I feel I do better get many thousands of visitors daily.  Yet I know there are others out there struggling to find an audience or their niche on the web and think I have it made.

So envy is a weird thing.  You can be envious of someone one day and feel sorry for them the next.  And for as much as you can be envious of others, there are probably people out the envious of you or your situation.

  • Seven Deadly Sins Cartoon: Pride

    Seven Deadly Sins Cartoon: Pride

UPDATE:  GET THIS AND OTHER DEADLY SINS T-SHIRT, POSTERS ETC AT OUR STORE

Today is the fifth cartoon in my series on the Seven Deadly Sins.

This one is a tricky one.  I think Pride tends to get a bad rap among the sins world.  A healthy dose of pride can be good for many people.  Whether it be National Pride, Gay Pride, or simply Pride that you weren’t so stupid that despite other’s belief that you wouldn’t, you got a degree.

But as always too much of a good thing is bad.  A strong belief in yourself is great.  So strong a belief that you come off that you are better than everyone else or their opinion isn’t just as valid as yours is bad.

  • Bearman Cartoon: Nicolas Cage Burial Suit

Bearman Cartoon - Nicolas Cage Superman Pyramid

So actor Nicolas Cage has decided that despite his financial issues and inability to reign in his purchases, he would prepare for his final resting place the best way he saw fit.  By purchasing a mausoleum in Louisiana shaped like a Pyramid.

It is no secret that old Nic fancies the man in tights either.  He wanted to play the title role when the Superman franchise was remade and his fanboy love drove him to name his son Kal-el (Superman’s real name from Krypton).  I am all for preparing so your family isn’t stuck with the bill and you can make sure your final wishes are fulfilled.  But, couldn’t you sort out some of your financial mess first.  I guess whatever he spent is just a drop in the bucket of the $14 million in taxes he currently owes.

  • Merry Christmas

    Merry Christmas

First off, I want to say Congratulations to Danica for winning the Editorial cartoon caption contest.  Danica email me (see email address above in the header) and let me know if you want something from WackSack.com or the signed artwork.  Here is the winning entry.

12 25 09 Bearman Cartoon Happy PC Holidays

Secondly, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.  I know we don’t all celebrate it but in the spirit of the day, I want to give thanks to all of you who have supported me over the last year.

I have said over and over, that it is great to have people follow you on tweets and yes I get excited when my website gets a new high in visitors.  But to me the greatest value I get out of doing this is the interaction that each of you give.  Putting up with my haphazard postings and times away due to work or because I am hauling my fat ass to the gym, you continue to come back.  Hopefully I was able to show the same courtesy to all of my frequent commenters.

It can take me an hour to get through all your posts in a day at times (an hour that I could have been drawing a new cartoon) but I think visiting and supporting you as well is just as important as me getting up a new MARGE SIMPSON NAKED image (sorry couldn’t resist getting some hits from the toon porn freaks).

The only thing that could make things better is if next year, you bring a friend and I double the number of commenters.  Crap, then I’ll never have time to respond.  Hope everyone has a safe holiday and an even better 2010.

    Looking forward to it.
