Seven Deadly Sins Cartoon: Pride

Seven Deadly Sins Cartoon: Pride

UPDATE:  GET THIS AND OTHER DEADLY SINS T-SHIRT, POSTERS ETC AT OUR STORE

Today is the fifth cartoon in my series on the Seven Deadly Sins.

This one is a tricky one.  I think Pride tends to get a bad rap among the sins world.  A healthy dose of pride can be good for many people.  Whether it be National Pride, Gay Pride, or simply Pride that you weren’t so stupid that despite other’s belief that you wouldn’t, you got a degree.

But as always too much of a good thing is bad.  A strong belief in yourself is great.  So strong a belief that you come off that you are better than everyone else or their opinion isn’t just as valid as yours is bad.

    Nicely put. I agree….

  2. Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful…. Hate me because I’m better than you! (Our college slogan at the University of Western Ontario) LOL

  3. Bo Lumpkin says:

Pride comes in a lot of packages. Personally I am most proud of my humility.

  4. sh says:

Pride cometh before the fall. Glad is good. Pride bad.

  5. Bo Lumpkin says:

By the way you were the 14,999th visitor to my site. I waited a while to come back to see who the 15,000 visitor would be and I was on a different computer and it counted me so I am the 15,000 visitor to my site. I get to keep the million dollars I wish I could give away. Now I have to go and see if I can find it.

Yeah, I definitely think pride is one of those things that really can go both ways. Perhaps it is the distinction between self-confidence and pride though, with the former being the healthy version of pride.

I think you hit the head on the nail in that it is more when ones pride gets in the way of accepting others or judging others that it really becomes a problem.

  7. susispice says:

ppffft dont hate the player..hate the game.. 😛 hehe

  8. jande says:

I think the deadly sin of pride needs to be renamed ’cause these days we tend to refer to it as arrogance. Even an overweening pride is somewhat tolerable, but arrogance burns.

  9. Friggin Loon says:

Pride? Sheez, I lost that years ago. In a bar I can’t rightly recall 🙂

  10. Seems I have unhealthy doses of pride, anger and hostility?

  11. Dan says:

What about Pride (In The Name of Love)?

Guess we’d have to ask Bono.

  12. lisleman says:

You did good considering the difficulty of showing too much pride in a cartoon character with no dialog.
Yes I agree it all about a good balance.
My favorite saying on this is:
“Often in error, never in doubt”

  13. lynn says:

i was wondering how you would illustrate this sin. i’ll admit i laughed when i saw the #1 finger!

pride? naw.. i don’t have much. basically i don’t think too highly of myself at all. here’s the difference between me and my other half: i think no one ever wants to know me and he thinks everyone wants to know him. that pretty much sums us up.

  14. nursemyra says:

There are a lot of people out there who don’t have enough pride in themselves. Couples who engage in public slanging matches for instance. There was one outside my house a couple of weeks ago screaming insults at each other. I really didn’t want to know he had a small dick and she was a lousy housewife with a fat arse….. have some pride people!

  15. MJ says:

Ha,ha,ha. Underworld pride. That’s just not right.

  16. i’ve always wanted one of those big foam fingers.

i think i’m the only person who has never had one. and probably the only person who has ever really wanted one.

maybe i just want what i can’t have. HMMMMM

    • Bearman says:

Maybe I’ll make up a collection. Then again, you said you weren’t greedy and now are proving otherwise so forget it.

  17. Baaaa ha ha, I think this is my favorite one so far!

  18. SpilledInkGuy says:

This is a tough one for me because every time I look into a mirror it breaks. 🙂

  19. George says:

I have a glove like that but it features an entirely different finger. 😀
