So I have been playing this week with a new iPhone app that I came across called Flixel. Essentially when you take a picture using Flixel it actually is taking a few seconds of video. You then swipe your finger across the image to show what part of the image you want to animate. The above image is Fountain Square in Cincinnati.
The largest issue I found is that I have fat fingers so parts of the image I didn’t intend to highlight get animated. Plus because I can’t keep my hand perfectly still unless my phone was on a tripod, there is some jerkiness to the final image. But hey it is FREE so what do I have to complain about. Plus if you always wanted to make animated gifs of photos, this is an easy way to do it.
Below is another example that I did with a glass of wine. I find that if you reduce the size, the jumpiness is a little less noticeable. What do you think? Winner or loser?
It’s a winner to me. I was looking for some way to really make a comic look like it was raining. Now if I could only figure out how to make this do it.
And, oh yeah, i probably need an iPhone. Shit.
1. Buy an iPhone
2. Draw your Comic
3. Pour Water all over it.
I’m sending you the bill.
I like what you did with that glass of wine…look great! I would have to say the app is a winner…being free and all. Good find, Bearman!
If it is free it is me!!
Nice find, Bearman! It’s really hard enough to take a pic without a tripod, let alone use an animation app. Well done!
Especially when it is raining out and your wife is waiting for you to get the car.
Cool, but I don’t want an iPhone. Or any cell phone for that matter. Freedom.
Have a terrific day. 🙂
No wonder you don’t answer my calls. haha
Very fun, Bearman! I’d love to see you make Bearman toons in motion!
It’s not that kind of animation. Unless I just shake the monitor up and down. hhaa
neat! I like the wine one…
The more stationary the area the better they seem to turn out.
That’s some awesome stuff! I’ve seen the style, so glad that it’s available much easier to achieve, right in the palm of your hand!
As I said there are a few glitches and I had to throw a few tries out but it is still pretty cool.
But whose foot is in your wine?
Her wine, her foot. My wife. I am more a beer or cocktail man.
Very impressive Bearman. I am on later than usual and at first I just thought it was my vision…then I read the blog. I’ve had intenet access for a couple of days and haven’t been off the computer so I’ve been getting motion on a lot of stuff that didn’t have any motion.
As long as your digestive system stays in motion you are doing good.
Jeez, call that a glass of wine – I can barely see it !
That’s cuz she drank most of it.
Obviously Americans don’t know how to drink!!!!
No…we like our livers.
Livers? Aussies don’t have livers!!!!
Probably a good thing it’s the wine that’s spinning and not the room.
I’m thinking I’d love an iPhone just because I’d always have a camera with me…
and for instagram and hipstamatic, etc…
Instagram I have heard of. Hipstamatic…not sure.
That is really cool, like the pictures in the harry potter movies, lame but its the only thing I can reference. Too bad it isn’t out for an android yet.
Too bad you bought an android..haha
That’s a pretty nifty app… the images turned out well, I have to say!
ehh…so so but still fun.
I styill have a 5 year old flip phone but it looks like a nifty (do people still say nifty these days) app. The glass of wine came out really good.
Yeah I finally broke down last year when I accidentally took my brick phone that you couldn’t even use for text messaging in the pool
They do tend to not work underwater.
Um…. I don’t really like it. I stared at the fountain for too long and now I feel seasick
haha…then it works!!!
I stared at that fountain too long and now I need a ‘wee’ 😳
Need a “wee” or Need to “wee”?
that is way cool. I’m gonna make my belly wobble..oh wait, I don’t need no app for that!
you said it ! 😆
Please do NOT post it.
is that a threat or a dare?
It’s a PLEA!!
That wine picture would look really weird drunk
Tell us how it looks.
Happy Easter, to you and your family, Bearman!
thanks…you too Deb.
This is SO bitchin. Can’t afford the monthly bill for an iPhone but DO have a 4G iPod, pretty much the same thing but minus the phone. Going to try and download the app; the iPod does work with wi-fi.
Yep it should work fine. Let us know what you come up with.
Whoa thanks so much for sharing this, I’m downloading it now as we speak!
Oooh a multitasker.
that’s awesome. I shall download it now
Awesome! And I’d love to drink that wine right now…I’m still fired up about your Easter egg post.
Oh boy…need to go read that comment.
I think it’s a cool ap and free. Free is always a good thing.
