Flixel – Animated Pictures on Your iPhone

So I have been playing this week with a new iPhone app that I came across called Flixel.  Essentially when you take a picture using Flixel it actually is taking a few seconds of video.  You then swipe your finger across the image to show what part of the image you want to animate.  The above image is Fountain Square in Cincinnati.

The largest issue I found is that I have fat fingers so parts of the image I didn’t intend to highlight get animated.  Plus because I can’t keep my hand perfectly still unless my phone was on a tripod, there is some jerkiness to the final image.  But hey it is FREE so what do I have to complain about.  Plus if you always wanted to make animated gifs of photos, this is an easy way to do it.

Below is another example that I did with a glass of wine. I find that if you reduce the size, the jumpiness is a little less noticeable. What do you think? Winner or loser?

It’s a winner to me. I was looking for some way to really make a comic look like it was raining. Now if I could only figure out how to make this do it.

And, oh yeah, i probably need an iPhone. Shit.

I like what you did with that glass of wine…look great! I would have to say the app is a winner…being free and all. Good find, Bearman!
    Hugs, xx

  3. Jande says:

Nice find, Bearman! It’s really hard enough to take a pic without a tripod, let alone use an animation app. Well done!

  4. Comedy Plus says:

Cool, but I don’t want an iPhone. Or any cell phone for that matter. Freedom.

    Have a terrific day. 🙂

  7. That’s some awesome stuff! I’ve seen the style, so glad that it’s available much easier to achieve, right in the palm of your hand!

  8. Binky says:

But whose foot is in your wine?

Very impressive Bearman. I am on later than usual and at first I just thought it was my vision…then I read the blog. I’ve had intenet access for a couple of days and haven’t been off the computer so I’ve been getting motion on a lot of stuff that didn’t have any motion.

  10. That’s badass!

Jeez, call that a glass of wine – I can barely see it !

  12. Probably a good thing it’s the wine that’s spinning and not the room.
I’m thinking I’d love an iPhone just because I’d always have a camera with me…
and for instagram and hipstamatic, etc…
    🙂

  13. That is really cool, like the pictures in the harry potter movies, lame but its the only thing I can reference. Too bad it isn’t out for an android yet.

  14. That’s a pretty nifty app… the images turned out well, I have to say!

I styill have a 5 year old flip phone but it looks like a nifty (do people still say nifty these days) app. The glass of wine came out really good.

  16. nursemyra says:

  17. Friggin Loon says:

that is way cool. I’m gonna make my belly wobble..oh wait, I don’t need no app for that!

  18. Nate Fakes says:

That wine picture would look really weird drunk

  19. Miss R says:

This is SO bitchin. Can’t afford the monthly bill for an iPhone but DO have a 4G iPod, pretty much the same thing but minus the phone. Going to try and download the app; the iPod does work with wi-fi.
    Gracias baby!

  20. Jenn says:
