Today’s movie poster is actually from a TV show (unless you count the horrible live action movie) but well within the rules. W. Byron Wilkins was one of the first to answer my last guest cartoon call back in the summer of ’09 and thankfully jumped back on the bandwagon again this year.
1977 is a cartoon about four friends in the late 70’s trying to make it big as a Rock and Roll band. Drinking, pot, sex, etc were all the rage in the 70’s (so I hear since I wasn’t old enough) and Byron captures the time well. Probably because he lived through it.
All I know is that if Velma on Scooby Doo looked like that, I might have watched that show a few more years.
Check in on Tuesday from a guest cartoon from Carlo of Callous comics
There were SOOOO many variations of Scooby Do over the years it’s hard to keep track of them all. They even had “made for TV movies” of the show on Cartoon Network not that many years back, just before the Live Action stuff came out (and I did not like them except that they made Scrappy Do a bad guy and blew him up… Yay!)
Being an old fart, I did not realize it was suppose to be a full blown poster, but that pose is a very popular one of the Scooby gang, so I’m close.
I guess I should read instructions, eh? 🙂
“(and I did not like them except that they made Scrappy Do a bad guy and blew him up… Yay!)”
Whhaaattt?!?!?!
How did I miss that?
Is your version of Daphne single? I’m in love bro 🙂
Yeah, Scooby chicks never had their headlights on very obvious reasons, but Daphne sure as hell would have them on… she’s hot.
🙂
…high-beams bro—me gusto 🙂
Cool image
Man, almost nothing sinks me back to the 70s faster than Scooby Doo. Byron, I suddenly want to see your version of it! I want to know what’s in those Scooby Snacks, too.
Can you say “special brownies”? Yeah, no wonder Scooby can talk. Who knows what Shaggy is putting in those dog treats.
🙂
Will Ebert and Roper sue me for saying this deserves “two thumbs up”?!?
I like those Scooby Chicks
Niiiiiiice! Very nice, indeed! 🙂
Thanks man!
Is it me or does Velma look like Sarah Palin?
i dont remember her having such big knockers either…
She just has a supposed boob job 🙂
Sarah Palin? Wow, that would be an accidental joke on my part, but no, I did not think of her when drawing Velma. Though, there’s a Palin joke in here somewhere…
🙂
I don’t think Velma can see Russia from her window 🙂
That’s a super hot Velma!
…but who smokes more pot: the 1977 cast or the Scooby Doo crew?
Well, if they’re *all* talking to a dog, AND he’s talking back, I’d have to say it was the Scooby Doo gang. Now that’s some good smokin’ indeed!
🙂
…which brings up a question I’ve always wondered about: what are “Scooby Snacks”? What’s in them, anyways?
Great job, Byron! I love your Velma. 🙂
Thanks, George! Robyn as Velma was a perfect match up. Everyone always goes for the “obvious” hot chick and it’s those silent, nerdy ones wearing the glasses that will knock your socks off (speaking from personal 70s experiences on that one).
🙂
I do not remember the girls being so well endowed. Even the nerdy one looks like she’d take you for a ride!
I had to sex up Scooby Doo’s women… that’s my job! I think we’d all watch THIS version of the cartoon…
🙂
Your artwork is superb Byron. You are very talented for an old…er mature dude.
It’s funny, I used to work with a lady who was so into Scooby Doo she had Scooby tattooed on her arm. No that’s a fan!
Very nicely done. You captured the Scooby Doo crew while still keeping your characters shine through… Awesome
That’s awesome! Byron, your style lends itself really well to Scooby Doo. Very cool.
I gotta agree! Looks better in my opinion!
she IS nipping quite a bit in this poster.
i dig it though.
i saw a scooby doo mystery theater put on by some college kids in chicago once, it made my life.
Brilliant!
