  • Editorial Cartoon: Greece Mathematics

    11-6-11-Bearman-Editorial-Cartoon Greece Mathematics

Today’s editorial cartoon is inspired by the financial crisis in Greece.   Where is Pythagoras when you need him? How is it that a culture that is known for their advancement in certain areas falls away from what made them great?

Many would argue the same is happening in America today.

  • Editorial Cartoon: Why Occupy Wall Street People are Rightfully Pissed

Editorial Cartoon - Why Occupy Wall Street People are Pissed

This editorial cartoon is for my Occupy Wall Street friends.  I am sure I will piss you off with a future cartoon but for now, I wanted to show my solidarity for one reason people should be rightfully pissed.  Companies talk about teamwork and performance, etc etc etc.  But damned if the executives can’t find a way (read excuse) to make sure their bonuses are intact while the rest of us have to do more with less.

Of course this isn’t a blanket statement for all executives or companies.  So, any examples in your own companies where executives seem to get perks that are continually denied to the rest?

Oh yeah, 3 panels and 9 people in this one.  You are welcome all you people who think I should spend 3 hours doing one cartoon.

  • Rent Textbooks & Binky Caricatures

Binky of Wombania.com Cartoon by Bearman of beartoons.com

Third and fourth winners of my 500th post caricature contest are up today.  First is the loveable Binky from Peter Marinacci’s Wombania.   Peter was too shy for a caricature so he asked the rocket and chocolate loving Binky to stand in for him.

Next up is the person that many thought was a spammer.  I mean who goes by the name “Rent Textbooks“.  Somehow I realized her comments were just a little smarter than a typical spammer so I kept her from the dump pile.  It has paid off and now not only is she a regular commenter but she is allowing me to out her publicly on my site.  First up is the caricature:

And the real her (in case you were wondering):

It didn’t help my cause that she sent me three completely different looks. ha   She said she was a big fan of the water and the beach thus the setting.

Some final good news.  So many times you see great bloggers and cartoonists give up the web for other things.  One of them was one of the first followers of Beartoons, Brogan from Artic Blast Comic.  Well I am happy to say he is back.  The site url is the same but the name is changed to Inkee Doodles Studios.  Go show him some love.

  • Nurse Myra Caricature

So the first caricature winner victim, is Nurse Myra from Gimcrack Hospital.   Myra is not a real nurse (so I think) and Gimcrack is not a real Hospital.  Instead Myra searches the web to find you incredible stories of medicine, murder and mischief.   Remember when I said NOT to have expectations too high with my caricatures.  I literally laughed out loud after sending the caricature to Myra and getting this response.

Hey that’s pretty good! Not flattering but it’s a definite likeness.

Myra, you want to talk not flattering…check out my first caricature of Brit.

  • Editorial Cartoon – SpongeBob is Making Your Kid Stupid

Editorial Cartoon - Spongebob Squarepants linked to Attention Deficit Disorder

So it seems our old Nickelodeon friend SpongeBob Squarepants is being blamed for causing little tykes to have attention problems.  A research study being discussed out of the University of Virginia points out that preschoolers who watch fast paced fantasy cartoons before being tested for memory, problem solving, attention etc. perform significantly worse than the ones who watched a slower paced cartoon or who were asked to draw for nine minutes.

As if this should be a surprise to anyone.  Patrick would be an MIT grad if he didn’t always hang around with SpongeBob.

Thoughts on this research?  Are you dumber from the cartoons you watched as a kid?

Don’t forget that you have until Midnight Saturday to win a free caricature.  Details.

  • 500 Posts! – Free Caricature Giveaway

My previous post was number 500 of my blog that started in the winter of 2008.  So to commemorate I am doing a caricature giveaway.   You have until midnight Saturday SEPTEMBER 17 to enter (for those of you who are slow to check in).

All you need to do is comment on this post and tell me what your favorite of the past 500 posts has been and why.   Simple.  Head to the archive to get started if you are newer around here.  Winner will be drawn and posted on Sunday.  Winner agrees to let me post their picture and finished work so think about that before you enter.  If you win and you want a celebrity caricature instead of you, I will make that happen.

Thanks as always for continuing to laugh and debate here.  It wouldn’t be the same without you.

  • How Hand Dryers SHOULD be Labeled

Editorial Cartoon - How Hand Dryers Should be Labeled

I am a firm believer in truth in advertising.  This is how public bathroom air hand dryers SHOULD be labeled.  I never get out of there without wiping my hands on my pants.

  • Rob Halford Dances with Gargoyle Cartoon

Rob Halford Dances with Gargoyle Cartoon

Another Sketch Challenge Cartoon.  This time we were supposed to pick a celebrity who was born on August 25 and have them dancing with a Gargoyle.  Don’t ask, I don’t come up with the ideas.  I picked Rob Halford of the Heavy Metal Band Judas Priest.  Of course how I titled this was completely innocent as I was making a play on the fact that Rob plays hard rock and is dancing with a hard rock (ie the gargoyle).  Then our friend MJ at the National Free Press had to turn it all around.  I’ll leave it to him to explain himself as I won’t have much internet access the next few days.

  • Fiber One Eye – Failed Monster Cereal

A challenge was posted recently to draw a Failed Monster Cereal.  This is what I came up with.  My favorite monster cereals are still Frankenberry and Booberry.

What are your favorite Monster cereals?  What would you name a FAILED Monster Cereal?

  • Why Google Plus is better than….

Why Google Plus is better than Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and Digg

So it is no secret that I have been somewhat neglecting my friends on facebook, twitter, etc because my time on social media has been taken up by Google Plus.  While it of course has some limitations I wish they would work out sooner rather than later, the above cartoon pretty much sums up why it is better IMO than other social media.

As always let me know if you need an invite.  And for people who have recently joined who are lost, ahem Bo Lumpkin, a fellow cartoonist Debbie Ohi has created a nice page with links to help get you started.  You can find it here.
