Thought I would do a Bernie Sanders Caricature.  You know, just in case he pulls it off against Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Primary for President.

    Have a great week.

  • Bernie Sanders Goes Back to the Future

Bernie Sanders Goes Back to the Future

Bernie Sanders goes Back to the Future

Today is October 21, 2015.  Any view of Social Media in the last week and you should know by now that today has been dubbed Back to the Future Day.  In the BTTF II, Marty travels to 2015 to save his kids.  This is the date he traveled to.

So of course I couldn’t resist a good mash up between Back to the Future and our current political campaigns.  Enter Bernie Sanders.  I always thought his hair resembled that of Doc Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd in the movies.

The fun fact is courtesy of this post which states that in order to produce the same energy as the Flux Capacitor in the movies, you would need 1 1/2 Nuclear Reactors or 600 Wind Turbines.  That’s a lot of wind.

  • Why AJ Lee Quit the WWE

Why AJ Lee Quit the WWE

    4-8-15-AJ-Lee-CM-Spunk-Bearman-Cartoons

Why AJ Lee Quit the WWE.  Well she didn’t really quit but rather “retired.”  That is the question on the mind of wrestling fans this past week.  Forgive me those of you who don’t subscribe to the soap opera fanatics that is professional wrestling.

Former Divas (Female) champion abruptly retired after Wrestlemania (the biggest event of the year for the company).  Some have speculated that since coming back, the WWE didn’t have a plan for her storyline and other’s that the travel schedule became difficult on the newlywed and she wanted to spend more time with her husband and also former WWE Champion, CM Punk who quit the company last year.  Unlike Punk’s departure from the company where little to no mention was made, the company posted a message on their website and brought it up on air which means that the departure was amicable.

Typically this type of departure is due to continued injury (ala Edge) or in a rare case, for a female wrestler, pregnancy (ala Kharma).  Given that the departure seemed on good terms, can it be that AJ is actually retiring because of CM’s sPUNK? (ok that is gross but oh too fitting with that name)

  • The Real Story Behind “The Interview”

The Real Story Behind “The Interview”

    12-29-14-Bearman-Cartoon-Kim-Jong-Un-and-Seth-Rogen

The real story behind “The Interview” will probably never be known.  But today’s cartoon tongue in cheek claims maybe it was a mutually beneficial relationship between Seth Rogen and Kim Jong Un all along.

There are so many conspiracy theories behind who really hacked Sony Pictures and what if any blame lays at the hands of North Korea.   Some reports say it was North Korea and others claim it wasn’t.  Even North Korea got into the conspiracy theory fray by claiming the United States government was actually behind the movie to undermine and embarrass the North Korean Government.  Now as history shows, especially during WWII, the US was heavily involved in film propaganda work as the majority of Americans went to the movies for entertainment.  But everyone knows our government isn’t funny, so to put this out is probably beyond them. SMIRK (As my friend Jynksie would say)

So with a limited run and “The Interview” being mostly streamed on the net, it make $18million in the first week and is the most talked about movie of the year.  Consequently, North Korea is also back in the news.

So conspiracy theory nerds, what say you?

  • HHH WWE Network Sign

    HHH WWE Network Sign

    Triple-H-HHH-WWE-Network-Bearman-Cartoons

The last in my lastest series of WWE Caricature Signs features former WWE Wrestler and now COO Triple H aka HHH aka Hunter Hearst Helmsley aka Paul Levesque.   Earlier this year, the WWE launched the WWE Network.  After first approaching several cable companies to create a premium network like Showtime and HBO, the WWE decided that the distribution wasn’t there and therefore created the network as an over the top streaming network.

The big value to customers is that at a $9.99 price point (with a 6 month commitment) you would get all the PPV events that historically were only available on cable/satellite.  The company stated in early earnings calls that they anticipated needing 1 million subscribers to break even.  Considering on cable any single PPV event could cost $45, the heavy PPV buyers flocked to the network early.  For one cable/satellite PPV, you could watch four monthly PPV events.  Great deal right?  Well unfortunately the WWE seemed to stall at about 700,000 subscribers as recent reports.

So how do you get the needle moving again?  Have one of your biggest talents use his on-air time to, with a wink, shamelessly promote the WWE Network at “only $9.99” at every chance he can.  If this doesn’t work, there is talk they may scrap the entire streaming network and try once again to sell it via cable.

  • John Cena WWE Sign

    John Cena WWE Sign

    John-Cena-Sign-Hustle-Lawsuit-Respect-Bearman-Cartoons

Apologies for the odd posting schedule as I have been working on several commissions including some new WWE Signs that I will be posting over the next few days.  Those of you who don’t care about wrestling or WWE should probably just skip visiting this week and return next week 🙂

Today’s entry is a John Cena sign.  Cena is the former champion and under WWE rules would be next in line for a rematch with the current champ Brock Lesnar.  For years, John Cena’s shirts have proudly displayed his mantra of “Hustle, Loyalty, Respect.”  When WWE COO Triple H threatened to pull him from the match, Cena threatened lawsuit.  In return Triple H mocked him saying “But when John Cena said the words to me ‘lawsuit’ — hustle, loyalty, respect, lawsuit — it doesn’t even fit, right? So out of character for John Cena.”

Personally my way of changing it to “Hustle, Lawsuit, Respect” works better.  What do you think?

  • Robin Williams Cartoon Quote

    Robin Williams Cartoon Quote

Robin Williams Tribute Cartoon by Bearman Cartoons

Actor Robin Williams passed away yesterday from an apparent suicide.  Originally I was going to draw him meeting up with his mentor and friend Jonathan Winters.   But then I came across this quote.

You’re only given a little spark of madness.  You mustn’t lose it.

It reminds me of the basis of the movie Hook.  where Peter must once again find his youthful spirit.  It is that spark that allows us to dream, to see beyond our current situations to brighter days.  Sadly maybe the real life Peter lost this for a minute too but sadly it was too late to refind it.   Interesting Williams was also quoted as saying:

In America they really do mythologise people when they die.

May his family find comfort in the outpouring of sympathy of anyone who was impacted by Robin in any way.

  • Sherlock Holmes Cartoon

    Sherlock Holmes Cartoon

    6-7-14-Sherlock-Holmes-Cumberbatch-Miller-Bearman-Cartoons

A Sherlock Holmes cartoon in present day could cause some dilemma as there are currently two series running using the iconic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle character.  Which one to choose?  Some are enamored with the BBC/PBS co produced “Sherlock” starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the role.  Others will prefer the CBS version titled “Elementary” starring Jonny Lee Miller.  I don’t have to make choices because I like them both but I would definitely give the edge to Elementary (mainly because they produce more than six hours a season).

But when you have two Sherlocks at once, won’t there be confusion when they both show up to 221B Baker Street (for the uninformed that is the address Sherlock Holmes lives in the books).  Things are easy as the BBC/PBS version takes place in London while in the CBS version, Sherlock (while still maintaining the Baker street address) has moved to New York City.

And for those who like trivia, Jonny Lee Miller’s first wife was this famous actress (click the link to find out).

I know Christina Wald at PopSmoothie likes the BBC/PBS version as my inspiration to draw this was from her recent sketch of Cumberbatch.  Any other fans of either series?

  • Mick Jagger Can’t Get No Satisfaction

Mick Jagger Can’t Get No Satisfaction

    5-12-14-Bearman-Cartoons-Mick-Jagger-Satisfaction-Caricature

Mick Jagger can’t get no satisfaction but he sure can sing it even now in his 70’s.  Way back in 1975 during an interview with People magazine (when he was only about 31) Mick proclaimed “I’d rather be dead than sing Satisfaction at 45.”   So of course I had to draw a caricature of Mick Jagger in a meme along with that familiar quote.

In my teens I can picture thinking about people 15-20 years older and thinking to myself “I will no longer do that when I am THAT old”.  Now you look at whatever your age is and think damn I am still young enough to pull it off.  Mick still struts it like a peacock without needing a cane yet so keep at it as long as you can Mick.
