  • Bearman Cartoon: Blue Dog Dems

I had never heard the term Blue Dog Democrats used so much until recently.  You would think with a Democratic President and Congress, that anything the President wanted could easily pass.  It seems while President Obama wants to rush through Healthcare reform this group of moderate, fiscal conservative Democrats may be the ones standing in the way as they want any reform to not be a drain on the taxpayers or on the deficit. Thoughts?

  • Guest Cartoon: Zorphbert and Fred

Quick post b/c I saw it’s up today.  Check out my guest cartoon at Dawn Griffin’s hilarious webcomic Zorphbert and Fred.  It’s about two aliens who disguise themselves as dogs.  She asked for guest cartoons to show what they really looked like.  Of course I had to oblige.

  • Editorial Cartoon: BERDINinG the Tax System

Just another “only in Cincinnati” event. Cincinnati City Councilman Jeff Berding is looking at all angles to attack aggressive panhandling in the city (which I applaud).  However his latest proposed tactic (read about it here and here) would actually charge a commercial tax to the homeless who panhandle.

Then again, isn’t the government already an aggressive pandhandler???

  • Guest Cartoon at CockNBull

Quick post..so I did a guest cartoon several weeks ago for CockNBull which is now up today so check it out and tell people it is the funniest thing you have ever seen.   For those unfamiliar CockNBull is a hilarious strip about …..a Cock (not that one Myra) and a Bull.  Arnie Dunnel, the creator is afraid to have his characters cuss so I thought it only appropriate.

Tonight or tomorrow, I will tell the story of shame that I have for not realizing until I looked at it again last week, that I had lifted the idea from someone who is bright, talented, good looking, and a hero to us all.  I will put up my apology then.

Bonus points if you know who and what cartoon.

  • Bearman Cartoon: Evil Twin

Did a new cartoon entry for Comic Strip Improv and this time the topic was ‘Evil Twin”.  Will post it later but for now you can see it at their site.  If you want, go to the home page and login with your openid if you want to vote.  Personally I think they should open it up to anyone to vote whether they sign in or not b/c they aren’t getting many voters and I think it is ultimately hurting their number of entries.

    UPDATE!!!!  Here is the pic.

  • Bearman Cartoon: Shrinking Newspapers

Editorial Cartoonists continue to mourn when another newspaper cuts its editorial cartoonist.  However, the rest of the newsroom is not immune to layoffs.  It was announced this week that the Cincinnati Enquirer is cutting over 100 jobs while Gannet is cutting 1400 nationwide (see here).

What makes it even stranger is that I didn’t see this story at the Cincinnati Beacon until after I drew the latest editorial cartoon.  It seems in order to save space (or try to appear more national) The Cincinnati Enquirer masthead is now simply “The Enquirer”.  More reason to save space when converting to this format:

  • Bearman Cartoon: Real Reason Palin Quit

Sarah Palin announced she is quitting her Governorship of the state of Alaska. Even after supposedly explaining her reasons, no one can figure it out. No one but of course ME.

This editorial cartoon gives you a peek inside her head and shows the real reason Sarah is quitting.

  • Bearman @ 100

Illustrator Phil McAndrew posted something at LiveJournal where he asked readers to draw what they would look like at 100. Check at all the great entries here by scrolling through the comments section.

I missed the contest but thought I would take a stab at what I will look like then (hopefully).

  • Bearman Cartoon: Elvis Jackson

It must be tough being an Elvis Impersonator these days. People who were alive when Elvis was are becoming older and now with the untimely death of Michael Jackson, you will have all his impersonators cashing in. Them along with people hawking t-shirts and other unlicensed crap (as well as the occassional editorial cartoonist taking advantage of the situation).

    So my three predictions:

    1. Michael Jackson Impersonators will be getting alot of work.
    2. Debbie Rowe will come out and say Michael is NOT the biological father of his children in her attempt to get custody (or at least more money)
    3. Someone will link prediction 2 with Billy Jean (ie. The kids not my son) in either song or late night joke form.
