The Heckler – The Movie

Watched Jamie Kennedy and Michael Addis’ hilarious documentary about what else, Hecklers on Showtime on Demand last night (go quick as it is only up there a few more days).

The movie is about those who heckle and confronting them on why they get off on it. Whether it be at a comedy club, a film critic who goes beyond critiquing the film and has to take personal shots at the actor, or bloggers.

One guy in it said there are two types of hecklers at a comedy club. Those who want to be a part of the act and those who want to fuck it up. I guess the same could be said for bloggers. Somehow being anonymous or at least behind the safety of the web, we feel we are more entitled not only to share our opinion but to bring others down personally at the same time. Personally I enjoy the banter of both on here…whether you like my stuff or not, you took the time to visit.

I thought it was hilarious that Perez Hilton was on there confronting his critics (hecklers) for saying he isn’t a real journalist. Someone who takes personal potshots is upset when someone does it to him? Heard recently he went to a Criss Angel magic show and was twittering throughout how much it sucked. At the end of the show Criss had him stand up and called him a douchebag asshole. Classic. Heckling and Heckler is OK with me.

Here’s the movie trailer.

That’s why I could never be a stand up comedian. Well, it’s probably not the only reason, but it’s up there.

  2. cbabin says:

I love hecklers. Especially on my blog. Normally I’m biting my tongue so as not to offend anyone, but if the person asks for it … it’s on!

  3. nursemyra says:

I feel pretty uncomfortable when anonymous readers heckle on blogs. Though some flame wars can be like car accidents – you just have to keep reading…..

  4. G says:

Perez Hilton is a nothing. If he wasn’t pursuing the alternative lifestyle in California, nobody would be paying attention to him.

That being said, if anyone wants to get a good taste at being heckled and flamed, surf the chat rooms for about a week or so. I can absolutely guarentee you that people will follow you all over the place to flame you, including your blog.

    • I gave up chat rooms about 8 years ago. Blogging and drawing take too much time on the computer as it is. I have to get out sometime and enjoy the real world when I am not working the real job.

  5. Nate Fakes says:

When chat rooms first started up, man – I used to be proud of my heckling abilities. I knew I succeeded when I was finally booted out by AOL. Aaa, goodtimes. Yes, life has been much more productive since.

  6. G says:

Since we’re bragging about chat rooms, I did manage to get myself purged about a year ago from the Topix forums.

Those were the good old days.

    • Man you guys are brutal. All I ever did was go to a “Rate my Pic” room and be honest. Sometimes people didn’t like that and would say “I didn’t ask you to rate my pic” and I would say, “then don’t come into a room called RATE MY PIC.”
