Editorial Cartoon: William Shatner Pants TSA

The Cartoonist Studio Editorial Cartoon Contest continues and I made it to week NINE!!  So I am almost done asking for votes.  Thanks to all for voting.  Click the image above or here to go to the voting.  You should do a search of “Bearman” and my cartoon will come up front and center and then vote.  Again, as long as I stay in the contest, there will be two editorial cartoons a week to vote on – Mondays and Thursdays.   Oh and you can vote multiple times in each round if you want (resets every six hours) until EOD Tuesday.

A little humor for the week prompted today’s editorial cartoon.  It seems actor William Shatner (Star Trek, TJ Hooker, Priceline Negotiator) has a little embarrassing moment with TSA agents at LAX.   He was going on an international flight out of LAX and as he relates it, he didn’t want to be wearing anything binding…so he went to the airport in loose clothing and NO UNDERWEAR.  Shatner, who had a hip replacement always sets the metal detector off and has to have extra security pat downs.  Well it seems an inexperienced TSA agent got the “short stick” and was a little aggressive in his work causing Shatner’s proton torpedo to be visible to everyone in airport security.

See the video of Shatner relaying the experience to Craig Ferguson.

  • Editorial Cartoon: TSA Pat Downs (again)

    Editorial Cartoon: TSA Pat Down

I actually drew this one last week but it got pushed back.  It is the second of my editorial cartoons on the TSA Pat Downs.   I got to wondering, as embarrassing as it is for passengers, how must a TSA agent feel to have to grope the smelly crotch of some dude who hasn’t bathed in over a week.

And the results are in and almost 90% of you thought my latest TSA shirt design was appropriate so in honor of your votes, I present the following design available right now on the store on buttons, stickers, t-shirts etc.

  • Is this Toooooo Offensive??

    Stop Gate Rape

Everyone knows I have no problems walking the edge of good taste.  Of course the wife loved it as we both laughed uncomfortably at this given the TSA issue in the news.   One one hand, I think it is a great play on words.  On the other I would never want to minimize the effects of someone who has actually been raped or make too much light of it.

So I am leaving it up to you.  Offensive or not.

    Editorial Cartoon: TSA Pat Down

I have noticed over the last week a sudden uptick in visitors looking at my previous Body Scanner cartoon.  So I thought I would delight them with what turned out to be one of my own personal favorites.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the creepy old guy depicted, he is Herbert, the creepy old guy from the Family Guy cartoon.  I was going to have him say something about excusing his shaky hand but thought this was better.

And of course, I had to jump on the bandwagon with my own “Don’t Touch My Junk” shirt.

    Don't Touch My Junk T-shirt

Plus right now is a good time to buy this as you save $10 on orders of $50+ in my shop during the CafePress Friends & Family Sale November 20-23.  So shop our store, wacksack.com and use code: Friend10.

    CONTEST:

Now since our friend Brit is out there with a contest trying to get followers by offering cookies, I thought I would try my own.  The first person to buy the “Don’t Touch My Junk” t-shirt and gets video of themselves going through airport security wearing it will win a $50 Cafepress Gift Certificate that you can use on my store or any other Cafepress store.  (Update: So the wife had a point that it might be against airport regulations to take pictures at security so as not to get anyone in trouble I’m switching things up.  If I get at least 5 people to buy the shirt and send me a picture of them wearing it in a funny situation, I’ll have my readers pick their favorite and that person will win a $50 Cafepress Gift Certificate.)

  • Airport Body Scanner Smuggler

2 7 10 Bearman Cartoon Airport Body Scanner

There seems to be a wide range of people who are concerned in the US with the TSA putting Body Scanners in the security lines as another line of defense against terrorism.  This article from the Washington Post explains much of it.

I think the above might be an unintended consequence for those men who are “underpacking”.

  • Coffee, Tea or Depends

I worked on this editorial cartoon before I read that they are pulling back on the regulations but it still is a harsh reminder of how the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) can have a knee jerk reaction.

After the failed terror attempt on a Northwest Flight last week the following regulations went into effect for international flights:

  • Limiting international passengers to a single carry-on bag
  • Second-round security checks, including manual pat downs and body searches
  • On certain flights, disabling the map showing the plane’s progress and location
  • Prohibiting passengers from having blankets or pillows in their laps for the last hour of the flight
  • Requiring passengers to remain seated for the last hour of the flight
  • Now I have no problem with any of those things to promote security EXCEPT for the last one.  It is at the point in  the flight that they say I can’t get up for the bathroom, that I tend to always have to go.  There were domestic flights that I took after 9/11 that they told us we would not be able to get up during the flight (less than 2 hours) so we had better go to the bathroom before boarding.  Of course that was after I chugged a bottle of water.

When those of us with weak bladders and spastic colons are hindered in our ability to go when needed, then and only then have the terrorists really won.
