Presidential hopeful Donald Trump isn’t having the best day when it comes to the opinion of him with regards to his treatment of women. The New York Times published what Trump called a “hit piece” titled “Crossing the Line: How Donald Trump behaved with women in private.” While there are many cases including his initial reaction to what should happen to women who get an abortion, it seems one of the models in the NY Times article says her story was spun.

Stories of his anti-Mexican and anti-Muslim sentiments have also been reported widely. Yet the candidate will continue to tell you that those groups love him.

Charity Challenge Week 1 Results

Speaking of love, my biggest efforts in the charity challenge are usually Google Plus. With the changes to their system, I have noticed over the last 6 months that engagement is down considerably. Last year in the first week I had 545 new followers there. This year, a measly 1 net new follower. Maybe it is becoming the ghost town everyone claimed it to be. But not giving up and thanks for all those who support the efforts each year.

The Anatomy of Ted Cruz

Ted Cruz, the only presidential candidate that I haven’t poked fun at directly gets his treatment today. Let’s take a look at the Anatomy of Ted Cruz together. As the Republican Party is now looking for any alternative than Donald Trump, Ted Cruz is preening and Jeb Bush is kicking himself for not staying in the race.

$15 Minimum Wage

Minimum Wage. Everyone seems to have an opinion during this election cycle. Bernie Sanders wants a $15 minimum wage. Hillary Clinton says raise it to $12. Cruz is completely against it. John Kasich says let the states decide. And Donald Trump has said both increase it and don’t increase it in the past.

At $15 per hour and a 40 hour work week (something I managed to do easily during High School and College during breaks), would equal $30,000 per year. I wondered what soldiers make and found this listing of Army pay. A private coming into the Army only makes $18,000-20,000 per year. Somehow I think that takes a little more commitment than the guy serving up your burger at a fast food restaurant.

So until the government pays a living wage to our military, they shouldn’t debate what the private sector is doing. And you want to manage the cost of education…mandate that public universities lower tuition to keep in line with inflation (but that is another cartoon)

The GOP Hatches a Plan

The GOP hatches a plan. Yet it seems to continually backfire. (With apologies to Dr Suess and Horton Hatches an Egg). Last summer when Donald Trump was first running, the GOP figured he was a flash in the pan candidate who would fizzle out. But they figured they could use his celebrity to their advantage and made him pledge that he would support whomever became the Republican nominee and wouldn’t seek a third party run. Six months later, Trump is commanding the lead in the run to the nomination and Republicans are backtracking in droves.

One time candidate Marco Rubio stated “I still at this moment continue to intend to support the Republican nominee, but it’s getting harder every day.”

So will we end up with a brokered convention that could spell the end of the Republican Party as one entity? Will two sub parties emerge? So as the cartoon says, the GOP is holding to the pledge

“I meant what I said,
I said what I meant.
I’ll support Trump’s nomination
one hundred percent….
unless I destroy both of us in the process.”

March Madness Vasectomy

So today’s cartoon is another learning fact. It seems that more men schedule vasectomies during this time of year than any other. Why? They want to take time off work for their recovery to take advantage of watching the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Get a vasectomy? March Madness indeed.

Dolphin Selfies

I read the other day about the stupid behavior of beach goers in Argentina. Seems a baby Franciscanas Dolphin was stuck near the shore so instead of helping the animal back into the water, overzealous tourists decided to pull it onto the beach and take selfies with it. Of course it quickly dehydrated and died.

I was thinking about it when I got a Facebook notification from Dan Soto

Not quite what Dan requested but challenge accepted. Like Planet of the Apes, what happens when the animals turn on us and start reacting in human behavior. OK far fetched but Dolphin Selfies is something I want to see. 🙂

Coingate

Today’s editorial cartoon is brought to you by the lovely American practice in some states known as a Caucus. The one in Iowa has social media spreading a new hashtag – COINGATE.

In several districts in Iowa to break the virtual tie between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Primary, officials ended up flipping a coin to determine that districts winner. Out of seven districts that came down to the coin toss, Clinton won six of them. Oddsmakers are skeptical.

NPR claims that a fact check of the situation says that the story isn’t entirely true as the conspiracy theorists.

What a stupid way to determine a winner of an election or even who gets that odd numbered delegate. Then again we are the country that brought you hanging chads in the 2000 Presidential Election.

Celebrity Deaths

Does it seem like there are more Celebrity Deaths than the norm as of late? Of course this cartoon was inspired by waking up today to find that another celebrity of old had passed away – Dan Haggarty of “Grizzly Adams” fame. Starting with Natalie Cole and Lemmy from Motorhead in late December to David Bowie, Alan Rickman and Glenn Frey already in 2016, I wonder if the Grim Reapers are unionized.

As I age myself, people dying in their 60’s and early 70’s is now starting to seem too young. Heart goes out to all their families.

Trump the Grinch

Is Donald Trump the Grinch? His continual fear mongering to win support for his Presidential run garners a lot of press and quite a few supporters. However, his current rants against Muslims, including barring any Muslims from entering the country and starting a database on those who are already here, reminds me of Senator Joseph McCarthy in the 1950’s. McCarthyism created unsubstantiated claims that certain people were Communists causing the accused to lose their jobs or careers.

So what better time of year than to mashup Trump with the Grinch. How the Grinch Stole Christmas has a great song called “You’re a mean one Mr Grinch” which you can listen the first verse here.

I came up with the first verse. Anyone want to take a chance at a second?
