I am sure there are plenty of cartoonists doing editorial cartoons this week on AIG.
Barack Obama went after AIG looking for them to not pay the retention bonuses that someone sneakily made a legal obligation. Unfortunately he was too late as the money had already been paid out.
A few weeks ago I highlighted the work of George Ford and showcased the guest cartoon I did for his cartoon strip Addanac City. Instead of his strip style, I used my typical editorial cartoon style.
George has returned the favor by creating an editorial cartoon for me in his style and using his main character Hank. I love it. I can just see Madoff trying to reclaim his fortune by acting like one of those “royal monarchs” that everyone gets spammed with.
George is letting me post it here first before he posts it on his site so go check out his stuff as he is now updating his cartoons SEVEN days a week. I give him a month before he burns out. (j/k George).
Also be sure to check out George’s Addanac City blog as it has different stuff than the main site (one day he will figure out how to meld the two or I’ll figure it out and be able to tell him but he is more web literate than I so I doubt it)

Just came across the site Comics I don’t Understand. It features different cartoons that the blog author is having trouble catching what the point of the joke is. The most recent post includes the Dinette Set. Funny thing I hardly ever understand that cartoon, yet my dad always thought it was the funniest thing in the world. Am I not old enough yet to get it?
Thankfully the blog writers don’t look at editorial cartoons, or I might make their list one day.
Two blogs that I tend to check out on a regular basis both had reviews of the new move “Watchmen”.
Now I haven’t seen the movie yet (nor did I read the comic that inspired it) but Tom Richmonds Cartoon Blog and Tannerleah’s Stop Annoying Me Blog, both this week gave much press to the fact that the character Dr Manhatten is nude in much of it and that he has blue junk. I thought this odd until I googled more reviews and found this being talked about more than other parts of the movie. (See here, here and here for just a few other reviews)
I’ll be seeing it sometime this week and will give a full review. I just hope now I can keep from actually looking for the penis. Maybe when it comes out on video it can become a popular drinking game like “Hi Bob” (bonus if you know what this is referring to).
Anyway, here is my editorial cartoon take.
It’s that time of year that people in Cincinnati start throwing their hat in the ring to run for city council, so I thought given the tough economic times out there this editorial cartoon was fitting.
One of my frequent visitors and a member of my blog roll is the creator of a great webtoon called Addanac City (where the heck he got the name Addanac from it don’t know – someone thought it was Canada backwards with an extra “d”).
Anyway, the main character of the cartoon is Hank. I see Hank as a cross between Dennis the Menace and Bart Simpson. He has Barts “eat me” attitude but sometimes the naivete of Dennis who does bad stuff but doesn’t always realize the effect he has on others.
After my guest cartoon run on Unemployed Dad, George (the mastermind behind Addanac) invited me to work on a guest cartoon for Addanac City in my editorial cartoon style. Hank has a whacked out hairdo and I always questioned why. So I came up with my own answer.

With the economy sucking wind, I don’t hear my friends complaining right now about their crappy jobs. Instead everyone is singing the praises of their company (at least to their boss) in hopes of making it through the next round of cuts.
In a previous post, I talked about the web cartoon Unemployed Dad. Michael graciously allowed me to be a guest cartoonist and do my typical editorial cartoon take on his characters.

Going to be away from the computer this week so no cartoons. Decided to give another shout out to a blog that I have come to enjoy. I found it as part of the blog roll at unemployeddad cartoon website. Its called the Daily Elephant and it is written by a Chicagoan named Brit (may be short for Britney, Brittany, Britain, Encyclopedia Britannica…not sure).
Honestly, I am not sure what her blog is about…and apparently she doesn’t either (this blog really has no clear point or agenda”). But that’s the fun in it. From What Not to Buy for Valentines Day to talking up some “friend” of hers named Kenny, which we are all waiting for that day when she posts that she slept with Kenny in a senseless state of drunkenness.
Anyway…check it out (the four of you who come by my blog).
This editorial cartoon came to me as I was listening to President Barack Obama’s speech in Elkhart, Indiana this past week.
“If we don’t act immediately, our nation will sink into a crisis that, at some point, we may be unable to reverse.”
That scare tactic, reminded me of the things then President George Bush said after September 11, in order to pass a strong Terror Bill.
I like the fact that he takes his message to the people and disagree with Robert Schlesinger that he can go to the well once too often and overuse this tactic. But I am uncomfortable with words that intend to scare people into doing thing they wouldn’t otherwise. On the other hand I think it is disingenuous for House/Senate Republican to call him out for fear mongering when Bush did it himself. I, on the other hand, have all the rights to call anyone on this.
I am not sold on many of the elements of the stimulus package. I think much of the turmoil in the markets has been due to Wall Street and Businesses waiting to see if the government would pull the trigger to help save them rather than working on a plan to save themselves. Personally I agree with an article I read in the Economist, that concluded that no matter if the stimulus package works or not, eventually the economy will turn around and Obama will get the credit.
BTW…for the two people who keep track…what do you think of my new Obama?
