Mail Bag
Know what happens when you visit other people’s websites? You tend to win stuff just for commenting. I am so good at it, that people throw prizes my way. Ok kidding about that but I did happen to win some contests put on by two friends.
And as luck has it, I got two of those prizes just last week. First up was some earrings from Bo Lumpkin. Loyal Bearmaniacs may know Bo from his Gatorhead Webcomic and Bo Lumpkin sites. Well in the past several months, Bo has realized his talent for making custom jewelry and is becoming a celebrity on the local swap meet circles. He has been showcasing much of his work on the Bo Lumpkin site. As the winner of one of Bo’s contests, this is what came in the mail for me.
Not to be outdone, Oskar van Velden AKA Skar from Mojo Comic also has contests ongoing on his webcomic. As last months winner I got a custom cartoon of Ben (one of my favorite characters…mainly because he tends to end up the butt of the jokes). Here is my prize.

Congratulations! I’ve been showing my wife some of Bo’s jewelry (she likes hand-made, custom stuff like that). She’d love to order some, but I can’t drag Bo into the shipping game yet. Talk to him for me. She’d throw all of her extra spending money his way.

Thanks for the post Bearman. I actually had a lot of fun with the contest and I might do something similar again in a month or so. I really do need to work on some “manly” stuff for prizes I guess.
You could actually use your style and make some fancy looking pens.
Now that is somethin’ I need to ponder.
Get some decent looking silver/chrome pens and wrap them in various ways with wire/gems
That might go considerably higher in price than my $5 rings and earrings.
Buy a $3 pen. Put $2-3 of materials in it and sell it for $10

I’d suggest tie-clips/pins and cufflinks but I don’t think men wear ties and dress shirts anymore. Well… except the 1%
How about belt buckles? those would look snazzy!
I gave up ties but I still wear dress shirts. I look good in jeans and a dress shirt.
Maybe you could design a “Bo-logne: The Fragrance for Real Men”.
The real men around here smell more like Boloney than “Bo-logne” but that is a good thought.

Lots of perfectly fine manly men wear earrings all year. Apparently the manly rules for earrings is that in order to be considered manly you can only wear one of a pair. And if you have something in the other ear it has to be pierced in a different part of the ear and be non matching. These rules were decreed by the great god of manly dressing. Congrats on the win!
It used to be that you could only wear one. Now I think all the rules are out the door.
That rule is hard to gauge nowadays. There are some he-man type guys out here now who wear bigger diamonds in their ears than the chicks.
