Movember

11-21-14-Bearman-Cartoons-Peter-the-Great-Beard-Tax

Yes dear friends it is Movember, so time to celebrate with a cartoon of bearded fact proportions.   For the uniformed, Movember is a play on Mustache and November.  Many non folically challenged men grow a mustache to raise awareness about men’s heath issues and more specifically prostate cancer.  That or it is an excuse to grow a cheesy 70’s porn mustache while defending yourself from angry wives/girlfriends by claiming it is for a good cause.  In my house there is either shaved or beard.  No stache, no goatee, no mutton chops allowed or the wife threatens to cut off all her hair.

Which brings us to today’s hairy fact.   Peter the Great of Russia was so enamored with Western Culture that he tried all he could to get the backwards countrymen to do as the Europeans do.  So in 1698 he passed a law that taxed any man who wanted to keep his facial hair.  This fattened the government coffers so Peter could spend more time away from Russia and caused a majority of poor Russian men to shave.  Win Win for Peter.

So I imagine like today’s guys on the corner holding up the “honest sign” stating they need “Beer Money”, the men of Old Mother Russia begged for some “Beard Money”

Also credit to the artist who created the tree brushes I used in this post.

I lost my hair and I can’t grow good facial hair. I suppose it’s time to pay the tax 🙁

Hey Bearman, do I get some kind of prize for being the first commenter like I would at Binky’s site?

  3. Nate Fakes says:

    I opted-out of Movember this year. I don’t make a good Santa.

BTW – Do I get a prize for being the second comment?

I do Movember every month of the yer. AND I do pay…. sometimes the goatee is taxing on me marriage! [smirk]

  5. Comedy Plus says:

I see government is still doing the same thing. Taxing us so they can do whatever it is they do. Beard money is a far stretch though.

    Have a fabulous day. 🙂

  6. Tony McGurk says:

Interesting fact Bearman. There should be a shaving tax then I’d have a good reason to justify to my wife for a beard.
Do I get a prize for being the 6th commenter???

  7. Binky says:

I don’t think I’d look near as cute if I had to shave.

  8. Bill Murphy says:

Thanks Bearman! I was feeling all left out because I had no idea what Movember was all about. Knowledge is power! 😀

  9. Gruhn says:

Weird. They did a lot of weird things though.

  10. frigginloon says:

Movember is huge in Australia. Village People would be proud.

  11. jynksie says:

I find my wifes complaints about my goatee, at times, taxing! How do I shave her off?!? [smirk]

  12. Mark Stokes says:

You made me see the folly of follicles!
