Cards Against Humanity With In-Laws

8-5-14-Cards-Against-Humanity-with-the-In-lawsFor the uninformed today’s cartoon is about the game Cards Against Humanity.  Essentially each player is given several answer cards and one person reads a question card.  The players need to respond with the answer that they think the reader will like best.  Given the adult nature of most of the cards, typically the winner ends up being the one who has the most outlandish response.  Buzzfeed offers some examples.

Therefore, it is essential to know your friends well that you decide to play this game with to ensure that there won’t be hurt feelings or too overt embarrassment when done playing.

When we get together for a family lunch/dinner at someone’s house, many time it includes playing safe games like UNO.  So much to my suprise after lunch at our house, my wife suggested the entire family play Cards Against Humanity.  Not only did this include my mother-in-law but also several teenage nieces and nephews.

Of course I said if I played I would NOT explain any of the cards.  Thankfully my MIL was sitting next to my wife so any confusing words could be explained in whispers.  Of course, my wife had to loudly blurt out every word that she had to define.

Note: All of the answers used in the cartoon are real cards except one.  You have the ability to make up your own cards so one of the answers was offered up by a female friend that she heard in college.  I’ll let you figure it out.

It is not a very good family game actually 🙂

  2. Christina says:

Although it is probably safer than discussing politics.

  3. Perk says:

Some grandmas may surprise us. They were once young and probably every bit as raunchy as us.

  4. Bill Murphy says:

Bearman, I’d stick with Uno as well. Too much room for uncomfortable questioning with the other game. I’d rather play a solitaire version of it! 😉

  5. Tim Green says:

I have played this game…never with the in laws, fortunately!

  6. Comedy Plus says:

I think I’ll pass on this game. Well I might play if I’m drinking alcohol. I’m just saying.

    Have a fabulous day. 🙂

  7. Grandmas should never utter the word “queef”.

  8. George Ford says:

I think I literally began choking while reading this! I’ve never played (nor heard of) this game, but I think it’s time to go visit my mom-in-law. 😀

    • Scott says:

I too had never heard of this game until looking at this.

I would buy it–but I have no friends to lose! And no member of my family would agree to play it with me!

      • Well the cool thing is on their site, they let you download all the cards for free. You just print them up. For me it was better to just get a real card set.

  9. jynksie says:

I laughed so hard I farted!

  10. Tony McGurk says:

    Wouldn’t bleach sting???
I now have to Google liver on line & queef. Never heard those terms before

  11. Gruhn says:

This is actually probably a great game. As uncomfortable as it would be, it would probably lower the walls a bit between people wouldn’t it? And if you don’t want to answer something you just avoid with humor. That being said, I would never knowingly play it with moms in the room now that I know what it is. Thanks for the heads up.

  12. lisleman says:

I guess Trivial Pursuit is too boring. I have enjoyed the Balderdash game with the family. I don’t think Cards Against Humanity was meant to be play across generations.

  13. Mark Stokes says:

The squirm factor would be too high for me to play that with some members of my family.

  14. Dave says:

Oh brother! I do not want to play this game with the in laws. Thanks for the warning.

  15. I feel your pain, Bearman. Btw, what IS liver on a line?

  16. David Hurley says:

I’m scared, but hey what the heck.

  17. benzeknees says:

My family is soooooo boring – they would never even consider playing any kind of game that did not involve playing cards & now not even playing cards.

  18. Joseph says:

Haha! I’m going to have to look up some of those sayings!

I would be too uncomfortable playing this with my family.
