Obama’s Secret Weapon

Bearman-Cartoon-Obama Wins Because of Hurricane Sandy

Wouldn’t I have had egg on my face today if I had drawn today’s editorial cartoon and my prediction that President Obama would win was wrong?   Well I was right.  If you asked me 10 days ago, I would have gone with Romney.   Interestingly none of the pundits are talking about how the poll numbers moved back into President Obama’s favor after his several visits to the East.   As I allude to in the cartoon, he finally showed the leadership that has been missing in the past several months.   HOWEVER, if the election were another two weeks away, it may have swung back to Romney with the issues surrounding recovery and returning to normalcy.

Hopefully the President and the Republican lead House will be able to reach across the aisle and actually start compromising on some issues and do the job we need them to do.  Four more years of posturing and sticking their heads in the sand isn’t going to do a damn thing for the country.

UPDATE

Christina of Pop Smoothie sent me this picture of an Obama bobblehead doll she got at a Cincinnati Cyclones Hockey Game.  You can see Obama wearing the Cyclones jersey! Nice.

Okay. Now let’s see the one you did for Romney.

    jk

Now entering the lame duck season . . .

  2. Tony V says:

    This is very true.!!!

  3. Red says:

I am just glad this part is over. I can handle them smacking each other around, just not the non-stop coverage. Isn’t this why we invented cable…so the pres would not be on every channel?

  4. George says:

And if the hurricane hit this week, I couldn’t imagine what that would have meant for voting. Circumstances played a huge part in this. This thing could have gone either way. Obama was quite lucky (or blessed, depending on how you looked at it).

Very apt cartoon, but the way. And your Obamas keep getting better and better. 🙂

  5. Colleen says:

Bearman I am from the lost cause state of Kansas and that thing you got standing next to the president is not a hurricane, it’s a tornado!!!

    • Bearman says:

Hurricane’s cause funnel clouds…ok maybe I needed to make it a little bluer

      • Jim says:

The typical toon-ish icons I see on weather news reports n’ such, look a bit more flat, and with some clouds in a spiral pattern, orbiting the top.

Maybe you can take it as a opportunity for a mulligan, and draw another hurricane next time, if ya toon something about Sandy’s aftermath or whatnot.

        • Bearman says:

True but I do my crack research and they are always showing a top view because you are looking at a map. If you look at pictures of a hurricane from the side, they are indeed funnel clouds.

  6. Deb says:

    I’m just glad it’s over.

  7. Comedy Plus says:

Love the cartoon. I agree too. I don’t think there will be much reaching across the aisle from either side. Way too divided for that.

    Have a terrific day. 🙂

  8. Bo Lumpkin says:

I did my civic duty. I voted. I don’t have to tell anyone who I voted for and but I still have the right to complain about the government because I did my part.

  9. Ramona says:

LOVE this one….you are a genius Bearman 🙂

  10. Gruhn says:

Who really knows what helps and what doesn’t. I’ve heard it said that Abe Lincoln was too awkward and gangly and would never get elected today which is an interesting thought.

  11. DadaHyena says:

Was Sandy the one blowing around all the confetti after his victory speech?

  12. frigginloon says:

All elections are won by the blowing of hot air. If only politicians saw the economy as hurricane damaged . Then they might just all rally together to repair it .

  13. Binky says:

Politicians working together for the good of the people.
    Well, it could happen.

  14. jynksie says:

I think theres a difference between how politicians work, or not work together in congress vs a national crisis. I would think for the good of us all affected by this storm, you’d want to see leadership, not mock it.

Now put your hand out, I’m gonna slap it with this wet noodle! …no, no… it’s an actual noodle, it’s not a euphemism my good sir! [wink]

    • Bearman says:

I’m not mocking his leadership during the crisis. I was mocking that it took a crisis for him to show leadership beacause in 3 debates it was lacking. Either he was a pushover or a bully, but not a leader.

      • jynksie says:

We must have watched different debates, cause while I thought Obama phoned his debates in, I thought Romney was aggressively bullish and rude in all 3. He was rude to the moderators and he was rude when talking to the President. It’s one thing to be assertive, it;s another to talk down to everyone in the room like he’s the superior one.

The debates aren’t what swayed me one way or the other though, its the fact Romney was my Governor [I lived in MA during his tenure] and the man who ran for President, Isnt the man we New Englanders have met before. He was promoting an alternative Romney, not the Rockefeller Republican he really is! [fiscal conservative [although fee happy governor] and socially moderate].

It was quite entertaining to watch the rest of the country buy his cool-aid! He truly re-wrapped himself in a newer Romney packaging! People bought it! I was ready and willing to vote his way until he re-introduced himself to me as a man I’ve never met before!

        • Bearman says:

I have said since the beginning Romney biggest mistake was that he didn’t run like he governed. That was the flip flop. He had to seem bullish during the primaries and then try to show his real self in the election. It never works. It is the same strategy that Kerry had that allowed Bush 2 terms.

      • Obama did terrible in the first debate, but I thought he soundly won the second two. It was a good thing that he was able to step up to the plate in a crisis… that’s what you want in a president!

  15. Tony McGurk says:

Excellent Obama likeness. Wasn’t Sandy just a little bit bigger??? I guess many would liked her to have been that small. Were you anywhere near the destruction zone???

  16. Christina says:

What is funny about that cartoon is that we have a bobblehead they gave away at a Cyclones game in 2009 of Obama wearing a Cyclones jersey. I should snap a picture of it to add to your post. It is uncanny, your Sandy kinda looks like their mascot 🙂

Your caricature is getting better of him.

  17. G.B. Miller says:

Actually, his real victory speech should’ve been this:

“I would like to thank the media for helping me get elected. Their absolute fawning and groveling over me prevented them from talking about every single scandal and economic screwup that I’ve done in the past four years, and now I’m confident that they’ll ignore the continuing scandal and economic screwups for the next four years.”

  18. I am with Loon on this one.

  19. I missed that part. It was past my bed-time.
    🙂

  20. starla says:

The huricane was interesting timing. I like all the confetti in your cartoon it gives it a very festive feeling. The billions that they spent of ads could have come in handy right now as they are rebuild.

    • Bearman says:

I would love for them to kill the PACs so they couldn’t hide behind someone else doing their dirty ads

      • Christina says:

I agree. I cannot believe the money wasted on these campaigns. Imagine the good it could have done if it was used to build infrastructure, schools, etc. Heck, if these billionaires would just use the money to actually pay their employees instead pouring it into campaigns… I know, crazy thoughts, right??!!

        • Bearman says:

I promise when I run for office that I will make people print their own signs online and instead of raising funds for the campaign I will tell people to volunteer their money and time in honor of my campaign. That way when I lose, I will still have done more than many who have won.

  21. Mark Stokes says:

Winners and losers are two of a kind.

  22. Obama won because of the hockey jersey! LOL! I didn’t realize how close the race was. Just like everything else in life, timing is everything!

  23. Basically true. Although it’s pretty easy to get on the right side of the hurricane issue.

  24. The hurricane is the Republican’s version of the Florida re-count errors back in 2000.

  25. Well done! I recognized Obama before I started redding the comic 😀

  26. Justin says:

No offence, but to say that Hurricane Sandy is the reason why Obama was reelected is an insult to the victim’s of Hurricane Sandy.

    • Bearman says:

In times of tragedy we expect our leaders to stand up. Obama did and I think that is what swayed some last minute undecideds. Doesn’t minimize what happened to the victims

  27. Cha says:

    Awesome caricature 😉
