Bearman Cartoons Charity Challenge 2011

Bearman Cartoons Charity Challenge

It’s time once again for the Third Annual Bearman Cartoons Charity Challenge

Many of you know that I do this challenge each year to raise awareness of my blog while giving money to charities who need it.  Historically, this has been the majority of my advertising budget for the year so if you enjoy Bearman Cartoons, please help by spreading the word on Facebook, Twitter, etc and/or thumbing up on StumbleUpon or Reddit.

Your efforts cost me $336 in year one and $630 in year two of the challenge.  Once again I am issuing a challenge and this year I am going for $1000.   As usual my primary charity will go to help the hungry.  People tend to donate mainly during the holidays, so this is an especially important time of the year to do my challenge because food banks have needs all year long.

As in previous years, the first $500 raised will once again go to the Cincinnati FreeStore Foodbank. This charity does great things not only to feed those in need but also to help families get back on their feet in other ways.   Anything donated above $500 to the max $1000 will go to support the Red Cross to continue relief efforts in Japan.

I will donate the indicated amount for each thing that you do in the month of May:

  • $10 – For any cartoonists who uses ME in a cartoon in their strip.  Use “BEARMAN” somewhere in the toon.  Maybe it’s a character’s name, a name on a bar sign in the background, integrating my green haired gravatar into a background character or even loosely as “Check out that Bear, man!”  Be sure to link back to this post so I know to include you in my tally.   I know some of you work with a buffer so if you plan to post after May just contact me and let me know and I will add it to the list.
  • $5 – Add http://beartoons.com to your blog roll (for those who don’t already have it)
  • $5 – Add a Bearman Cartoons Banner Ad (found here) on your site or if you already have one upgrade to a larger size.  Link it to http://beartoons.com
  • $10 – Blog about my challenge to your readers and link back to this entry in your post – http://beartoons.com/2011/05/01/bearman-cartoons-charity-challenge-2011
  • $5 – Send a picture of yourself wearing a t-shirt from our shop OR send a picture that showcases that you are a BEARMANiac. Photos will be showcased in weekly updates and also appear ongoing in the BEARMANia section.    Last year Lynn blew up the Beartoons banner ad and had fun taking pictures all over Florida.  (Click here to see pictures sent in by last year’s BEARMANiacs)
  • $2 – Follow me via TWITTER updates. (if you aren’t already)
  • $2 – Like Beartoons on Facebook.

If you add me to your blog roll, add/upgrade your banner, include this challenge in a post, or start following me via twitter/facebook because of this post please indicate in the comments. I’ll post a weekly update of the money raised and who did what to raise the money with links back to your site if applicable.

 Thanks for your continued support.

  1. I added the 125×125 ad on my site. Should I have it link to this post for now or the homepage? How long does the drive last (sorry if that was above and I missed it)?

    Much luck! 🙂

  2. Hmmm…
I’ll have to ponder on the best way to participate in your very good cause, Bearman…
    🙂

  7. DadaHyena says:

How much money if we go outside into our neighborhood and scream, “BEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRR-MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!”?

    • Bearman says:

      That depends

      1. You have to video tape it.
      2. There has to be at least one person in the video looking at you like you are nuts.

  8. George says:

Ooooh, yeah! Is it that time of year already? I have so many devious ideas on how to make you go broke. I can’t wait to get started! 😀

  9. MJ says:

Dig your pause for the cause event.

  10. Jande says:

Best of luck with this, Bearman!

  11. I’ll put the word out via my facebook. It is great to see for the second time today that someone else is posting about hunger and helping out food banks. I volunteer at my county food bank and I have for years now. I love it and it has helped me grow as a person and help out those local neighbors in need.

    • Bearman says:

Thanks RT…now hopefully you have warped minded friends who will like this stuff too.

you know you still owe me a 125×125 banner ad as well.

      • I know I remember. I have been having trouble with my designer and have been looking for a new one. I wanted this to be kind of a test to give to the ones I am talking to. So I will see what happens. Sorry about that.

  12. Bo Lumpkin says:

Go ahead and make out the checks Bearman. I’m in a productive mood and they are both worthy causes. I already follow you on twitter and I will retweet everything that mentions you this month that I see. (I usually do anyway). This won’t cost you but I have other plans that will cost you.

  13. Corve says:

    Very good initiative.

    Bless your heart.

  14. Sheila Deeth says:

Looks like I’d failed to find you on Facebook, so I have now “liked” you.
It’s not a cartoon, I know, but I used “check out that bear, man” in a drabble and pointed my readers in your direction. Hope it helps. http://sheiladeethdrabbles.blogspot.com/2011/05/may-dribbles-1.html

    • Bearman says:

I was lost and now I am found…or something like that.

Thanks for the blog article. Another $10. I am going to have to keep track.

  15. Tony McGurk says:

I just liked you on Facebook so cough up the cash. My Paypal account is ready & waiting

  16. What a great idea! I’ll see if I can incorperate “Bearman” into one of my comics if I can’t for some reason I’ll shoot for one of the other options.

  17. bschooled says:

    You rock, Bear.

  18. Bo Lumpkin says:

Looks like you are goin’ to be plastered all over the interwebs Bearman. You won’t miss any of them though because you visit nearly every site on the net every day.:). This is a good time for all those you support to really push your site.

  19. 25BAR says:

I shall come up with something for you!

  20. Bo Lumpkin says:

I just put your tiny little gravatar on my Bo Lumpkin page with a brief notice of what you are doing. Tomorrow you will be on Mildred’s wall and coming soon you will be on a fertilizer sack behind Kurt and Burt and later in the month on the side of a truck load of buzzards. That is all I could get done yesterday but I am “still thinkin”.

  21. Bearman says:

    Thanks Bo!!

  22. 25BAR says:

Hi, I did a little post for you on my blog.
    Cheers!

  23. Kay Dennison says:

I just added you to my ‘Follow’ list on Blogger and will blog about your challenge soon. I found you courtesy of 25Bar. I’m always delighted to help a fellow Ohioan — especially if I like his cartoons!!!! 🙂

    • Bearman says:

Thanks Kay…always love to hear from a fellow Ohian. Does a follow list on Blogger work for someone who has a wordpress blog??

  24. Hey there, I just Liked Beartoons on Facebook and will post a link from my blog. So I am excited for your charitable actions – great idea!

  25. Jason says:

Got a big ol’ fat skyscraper ad up on “Perk at Work”! Best of luck and, as a fellow human, I thank you. All of us will need help at one time or another in our lives and it’s good to see folks like you being generous. Kudos!

  26. Well reviews here on this nice post.

  27. Dave says:

Wow, this is also an awesome idea for a charity challenge.

  28. planetross says:

I’m adding you to the blogroll as I speak … I’m speaking very slow, so I can do things almost simultaneously … but really one after the other. hee hee!
