Love it. I watched a program where scientists found many people have an allergic reaction to a specific chemical in cabbage crops. Sometimes they grow out of it, sometimes they don’t. Interesting.

  2. Nate Fakes says:

Reader’s Digest is missing out. And really, I think the kids in Africa would LOVE Brussel Sprouts!

  3. Bo Lumpkin says:

The difference between boogers and Brussel sprouts is that kids won’t eat Brussel sprouts.

  4. Jillsy says:

very healthy as well! I guess I could send prunes ~ also very nutritious!

  5. Mel says:

I hope I am never that parent that says that. Keyword appears to be That.

  6. Friggin Loon says:

Hey, they can have my peas and corn too !!!

  7. lisleman says:

creative excuses might not give you the vitamins but does exercises your mind.
I just read an article in today’s paper about the vegetable gardens in the Chicago schools. Interesting that they can grow stuff by are not allowed to serve those home grown veggies in the cafeteria.

  8. SpilledInkGuy says:

I’ve never tried Brussel Sprouts – still that seems more tortuous that charitable. Is there a return address on that perishable postage?! 🙂

  9. George says:

This is really cute, Bearman! I can actually see this sort of cartoon in their magazine. RD needs to go ahead and scoop you on up.

  10. Tony says:

Good on you kid, you can send mine too. I said a similar thing to my Mum when I was a kid. She knew I didn’t like tem but she would still cook them for us, my sister hated them too. Mum said “There are starving kids on the other side of the world who would appreciate brussel sprouts for dinner” So I said “Well send them to them because I don’t want them” Then I got slapped for being cheeky. I thought I was providing a practical solution. I didn’t want them & they did. Problem solved, so why did I get slapped???

  11. nursemyra says:

brussels sprouts taste great with bacon you know…….

  12. starlaschat says:

He can send me the brussel sprouts I don’t mind them and yes bacon is a good add on. I could send a box of cooked carrots I could live without them.

  13. This child is obviously suffering from the Oedipal complex. Look at his mother’s bosom. It’s both sagging and perky. He’s aggressive toward it.

  14. This was great! You know I actually tried to do that for real when I was child. I felt bad so I put a bunch of cereal and cans in a big box by the front door and wrote ‘TO Africa’ on it. I didn’t have a solid grasp of the postal system back then.

  15. DadaHyena says:

Now why didn’t I think of that when I was a kid?

Oh, right…Dad beat the hell out of me for being a smartass.

  16. Joenis says:

EW! But… they will be all moldy and grossss….

  17. Dan McGinley says:

I would send condoms but the church would come after me.

Oops . . . did I just write that? I’m going to burn. If I had the money, I really would help Africa, and a lot of other places. Kids are starving here, now. What to do?

  18. jynksie says:

When I was a kid, the ones starving were in China, now look at em! o.O

  19. I can’t tell you how many times I tried to do that with my mother. To many backhands to say.

  20. Dan Long says:

Also of note: In China, it is considered rude to finish your meal completely when served, because it implies that you are still hungry and the host did not provide enough food. So when your mom says there are kids in China who would love the rest of the dinner you’re wasting, you can throw this fun fact back at her.

    • Bearman says:

Interesting point. Where were you when I was coming up with excuses as a kid. This one could have come in handy.

    • Tony says:

I coulda really done with knowing this when I was a kid too. Valuable info which UNICEF should make available to children everywhere

  21. I tried to mail my green beans to Africa when I was a child, but I didn’t have enough postage to send it air mail. 🙁

  22. Alexa Stone says:

That’s my kid, with Spinach instead of Bruseel Sprouts. God, he hates Spinach more than I hate smashed potatoes 🙂

  23. Alexa Stone says:

You know, we both like Broccoli actually 🙂
