James Ellsworth Cartoon
My latest caricature study is that of one James Ellsworth. Now that Heath Slater has been signed to the WWE Smackdown brand, the hottest free agent in the wrestling biz is James.
James is what is known as a jobber in the wrestling business. A jobber is typically local talent when a wrestling promotion comes to a town, who is thrown into an obviously mismatched match to make a regular wrestler look strong. Typically, you never hear from or see these guys again. Let me clarify, typically you never hear from them in the first place. Jobbers are usually waiting in the ring just waiting to be squashed.
But James was given mic time before his match to utter the phrase, “Every man with two hands has a fighting chance”. He then went on to be obliterated by the much larger Braun Stroman (see pics at WWE.com). There was something magical about this jobber and wrestling fans went nuts for him (see here and here)
The WWE listened and brought James back in this past week for another comedic bit which continues to go over well. So hats off to you James, and keep your chin up!!!

Computer Crash Cartoon
Well it finally happened. After 9 years, my computer, and primary drawing tool, crashed. Towards the end I could work on it for about 5 minutes before everything locked up. After weeks of dealing with it without finding a solution and then researching new computers and then transferring files and programs, I am finally just seeing the end where I may be back up and running.
Bearman Cartoons Charity Challenge
The Challenge was a bust this year compared to the previous nine so maybe it is time to put that in the ground along with my old computer. As of last count we were only at about $150. I went ahead and made a donation to all three charities of $250 each.

Vanessa Ives – Penny Dreadful
Vanessa Ives, played by Eva Green, is a central figure in Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful” Series. For those not familiar, the series puts all of famous monsters from literature (Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, Werewolf, Dr Jekyll, Dracula) in Victorian London (yet in this season, the central characters have been pushed out to their own story lines outside of London in many cases).
Eva Green’s portrayal of Vanessa Ives can be both chilling and make you feel bad for her. In this season, Dracula is playing the long game to get her into his lair. Yet as good as the series is, it seems to get no love in the first two seasons from the Emmys. And it hasn’t gone unnoticed (see here and here)

Harambe
By now if you haven’t heard the news that the Cincinnati Zoo had to make the unfortunate decision to kill their gorilla Harambe in order to save a child’s life, what rock are you living under?? Sadly not the kind of news that Cincinnati needs or deserves.
While Thane Maynard, Cincinnati Zoo director stood by the ultimate decision it was not without regret as a long time advocate for animals both in the wild and in zoos. Of course that doesn’t stop the internet whenever a tragedy occurs to Monday morning quarterback the situation. The mob mentality that had a hundred thousand signers of a petition that the parents of the child should be held accountable. As tragic as it was, I am glad after investigation the Cincinnati police did not pursue charges.
Others use the incident to say that zoos need to be closed and the animals should run free in the wild. Zoos have been the greatest proponent of saving endangered species through education and fundraising. And yet you continually hear little noise about the poaching that goes on that causes the vast majority of these animals deaths and endangering their extinction. You want to jump on the bandwagon? Fine. Just make sure it is going on the right track.

Charity Challenge Week 2 Results
Speaking of love, my biggest efforts in the charity challenge are usually Google Plus. With the changes to their system, I have noticed over the last 6 months that engagement is down considerably. Last year in the first week I had 545 new followers there. This year, a measly 1 net new follower. Maybe it is becoming the ghost town everyone claimed it to be. But not giving up and thanks for all those who support the efforts each year.

Xavier Woods UpUpDownDown
Xavier Woods is the stage name of WWE Wrestler, Austin Watson. So of course my non WWE followers won’t get the caricature reference. Xavier loves video games and comics, so I figured who else would make a great cartoon than him. His web video series “UpUpDownDown” has him providing hilarious commentary as he plays video games with or against his WWE and other friends.
Xavier is also known for his hair. While he tends to mostly wear it in a low man bun, for special events he has been known to do some crazy stuff including an homage to Rufio from the movie Hook at one PPV.
So in my homage to Xavier and in honor of UpUpDownDown, he got the caricature treatment of an UpdoUpdoDowndoDowndo.

Trumping the Rights of Others
Trumping the Rights of Others
Presidential hopeful Donald Trump isn’t having the best day when it comes to the opinion of him with regards to his treatment of women. The New York Times published what Trump called a “hit piece” titled “Crossing the Line: How Donald Trump behaved with women in private.” While there are many cases including his initial reaction to what should happen to women who get an abortion, it seems one of the models in the NY Times article says her story was spun.
Stories of his anti-Mexican and anti-Muslim sentiments have also been reported widely. Yet the candidate will continue to tell you that those groups love him.

The Anatomy of Ted Cruz
Ted Cruz, the only presidential candidate that I haven’t poked fun at directly gets his treatment today. Let’s take a look at the Anatomy of Ted Cruz together. As the Republican Party is now looking for any alternative than Donald Trump, Ted Cruz is preening and Jeb Bush is kicking himself for not staying in the race.

$15 Minimum Wage
Minimum Wage. Everyone seems to have an opinion during this election cycle. Bernie Sanders wants a $15 minimum wage. Hillary Clinton says raise it to $12. Cruz is completely against it. John Kasich says let the states decide. And Donald Trump has said both increase it and don’t increase it in the past.
At $15 per hour and a 40 hour work week (something I managed to do easily during High School and College during breaks), would equal $30,000 per year. I wondered what soldiers make and found this listing of Army pay. A private coming into the Army only makes $18,000-20,000 per year. Somehow I think that takes a little more commitment than the guy serving up your burger at a fast food restaurant.
So until the government pays a living wage to our military, they shouldn’t debate what the private sector is doing. And you want to manage the cost of education…mandate that public universities lower tuition to keep in line with inflation (but that is another cartoon)
