  • Guilty Pleasures

Barely Knit Together blog posted this week about Guilty Pleasures (referring to songs, not something else pervs). I made the point that a guilty pleasure should be something you typically would be embarrassed to tell people. For example, the fact that I still enjoy “professional” wrestling would qualify.

Anyway, musically two guilty pleasures of mine are Aqua and Right Said Fred. Now of course you will immediately thing cheesy “Barbie Girl” and “I’m too Sexy” Those a probably the worst songs on their albums. So for your listening pleasure I give you Aqua’s Turn back time and Right Said Fred’s Swan (guess he never made a video of that one). You got any???

  • Disney's First Black Princess

What is wrong with this picture?

    Image Copyright Disney Corp.
Image Copyright Disney Corp.  Image Source:  Disney

Some of my loyal readers might remember a few months back my lamenting the fact that there were no Black Superheroes on the big screen (See that post  here).  Well for those little girls who Disney princesses are a big thing, it seems the long wait for Disney to finally have a black princess is coming to an end. Tiana in the Princess and the Frog.

I am just happy Disney hasn’t given up completely on hand drawn big screen animated movies. Now the next big controversy will be that her prince is a white guy.  But he isn’t white (at least in the classically defined state your race here confines).  He is actually Brazilian (or at least Hispanic) since  Bruno Campos is the voice of Prince Naveen and he purposefully is showcasing an accent.  Either way the topic of interracial marriage will come up.  I say baby steps.  Soon we might actually see a King George Ford onscreen instead of just in his mind. (inside joke)

  • Beartoons.com instead of bearmancartoons.wordpress.com

Some of you may know that I have been doing my cartoons for about 3 years at the Cincinnati Beacon website.  Wanting to expand beyond just simply posting editorial cartoons, I started this blog about six months ago.  Knowing that I could still host my blog here but have my own domain name, I went to register bearmancartoons.com.

What???? It’s not available.  Some dude had taken it six months ago.  I think he found me on the web and thought I would be an upcoming famous sensation that would make him rich by owning the domain.  All he had done is bought the domain and parked it so don’t bother seeing if he has a tribute to me on there. Well the jokes on you, because you are still paying for the domain and I am still not famous.

So I waited six months until his domain was set to expire and of course he renewed it.  Of course I could have gone with bearmancartoons.net but eh.

So lucky for you and me, I got an even better URL – BEARTOONS.COM.   Think how many characters I am saving on twitter posts.

Now for those of you linking to me, don’t worry, bearmancartoons.wordpress.com still works.  However, eventually I may want to put advertising on my site so I would have to host it elsewhere.   If you are one of those who have kindly linked to me in the past, if you have time to update your links to point to Beartoons.com (you can leave the title of the blog as Bearman Cartoons), I would appreciate it.

  • How to make a Tweet This Blog link using an Image

So some of you have been wondering how I was able to make an image link on my blog that allows my readers to click on it and it automatically creates a completed Tweet in Twitter account.

For example if you click this image:

    Tweet This Blog Post!

It should open up Twitter in a new window with a Tweet about the post already completed. It looks something like this:

    Bearman Example Post on Twitter

Now I looked around on the web for something that would do this more automatically but either, you had to to download something, they were too confusing, or they just didn’t work when your blog is hosted on WordPress.com like mine is.

    [sourcecode language=’html’]

    Tweet This Blog Post!

    [/sourcecode]

So once you have copied the above in the bottom of your post there are three things to change:

    1. Change @BearmanCartoons to @whatever your twitter name is
    2. Change “Creating a Tweet This Blog Link” to the title of your blog post
    3. Change the URL link to your specific post from mine of “http://bearmancartoons.wordpress.com/2009/05/06/tweet-this-image/” If you are using wordpress.com there is a permalink url right below the blog title entry box.

Don’t change the last URL which links to the image (I have changed the wrong one before) unless you are using your own image. And depending on the length of your URL, you may need to use a site like http://www.tinyurl.com to make it a workable link with fewer characters.

Let me know if something isn’t clear in the instructions or if you have trouble with any of the links.  Would love to know if you find it useful too.

  • What Would AL GORE Do?

Checking out the Daily Cartoonist, it seems Mike Judge is set to premiere a new animated series called “The Goode Family” on Wednesday May 27 on ABC.  Honesty here I never was a big fan of Judge’s Beavis and Butthead or even King of the Hill (but I love Office Space).

    From the description:

With standards always changing, no matter how hard you try to be good, it’s virtually impossible these days . . . especially for the Goode family.

Meet Gerald and Helen Goode, a couple who live by the motto WWAGD (“What Would Al Gore Do?”).

Gerald, a college administrator, and Helen, a community activist, are determined to obliterate their carbon footprint on the planet: They’re zealous vegans, they drive a hybrid, and they recycle everything possible. Even the family dog, Che, is vegan. In the words of Helen, all the Goodes want to do is buy organic apples and call minorities by their right names. But despite their best efforts, something always goes haywire with their politically correct plans.

  • Funny Search Term of the Week

Ever look to see what search terms people use to find your blog.

This week two people found me with the terms:

    Naked Bear Man Game

Wonder what the rules of that one are?

  • Thanks to all – Over 1000 hits

Over the weekend given that I was quite prolific last week and put up three new toons, for the first time ever I had 1000 hits in one day on this blog.  Most of you will laugh because you probably get thousands of hits but oh well. I even reached around number 70 on the WordPress Blog of the Day.   Once you get rid of all the professional posters like CNN, Fox, and People Magazine which tend to always take the top spots, I might have been in the top 25.

Also have been getting a lot of hits from a link I posted in a comment at JokesFunny.wordpress.com so go check it out as well.

Thanks to all who visited, commented and retweeted. Away from computer this week so can’t churn out anything until later in the week.

  • The Heckler – The Movie

Watched Jamie Kennedy and Michael Addis’ hilarious documentary about what else, Hecklers on Showtime on Demand last night (go quick as it is only up there a few more days).

The movie is about those who heckle and confronting them on why they get off on it. Whether it be at a comedy club, a film critic who goes beyond critiquing the film and has to take personal shots at the actor, or bloggers.

One guy in it said there are two types of hecklers at a comedy club. Those who want to be a part of the act and those who want to fuck it up. I guess the same could be said for bloggers. Somehow being anonymous or at least behind the safety of the web, we feel we are more entitled not only to share our opinion but to bring others down personally at the same time. Personally I enjoy the banter of both on here…whether you like my stuff or not, you took the time to visit.

I thought it was hilarious that Perez Hilton was on there confronting his critics (hecklers) for saying he isn’t a real journalist. Someone who takes personal potshots is upset when someone does it to him? Heard recently he went to a Criss Angel magic show and was twittering throughout how much it sucked. At the end of the show Criss had him stand up and called him a douchebag asshole. Classic. Heckling and Heckler is OK with me.

    Here’s the movie trailer.

  • Porn fans love me

It’s interesting when you get a huge spike in hits to find out the cause.  Fellow blogger Robert at Fundamental Jelly always is talking about how an innocent mention of gall bladder in one of his posts has turned his site into the leading purveyor of news on the medical condition.

Do I get the people looking for medical advice…no, I get the porn addicts.  A few weeks ago I posted a story about Joe Shuster, the creator of Superman, falling on hard times.  In order to make ends meet, he started drawing racy, fetish cartoons for a magazine called NIGHTS OF HORROR.

Well it seems like the phrase “Nights of Horror” is very popular search term the past two days and they all seem to want to check it out.  So all you pervs…here again is the link to the site.
