Takei – Definition

Takei-Definition-2-Bearman Cartoons

Seems actor George Takei isn’t just famous for his stellar acting on Star Trek.   He has parlayed his celebrity into appearances on the Howard Stern show and is something of a Social Media icon – especially on Facebook.   And several times from an unmentioned cartoonist friend of ours.   As you all know I am a big proponent of those who share other’s work to provide credit where you found it.   It isn’t too hard even if you found the picture/cartoon on google because many artists, including yours truly, puts their URL on the image.

George, or whomever is posting for him, doesn’t seem to always have the time for that so he just takes it and posts it as is.  Interesting that someone who is in the intellectual property business seems to miss that courtesy.

Any other celebrities that I should spoof their social media habits into a future definition?

NOTE:  For those who were here yesterday I didn’t like my caricature of George Takei so I updated it.

If you use someone else’s work, it’s only fair to give them proper credit for it !

  2. Binky says:

You mean all that stuff on the internet isn’t free??

  3. This is wonderful. Now I like George, but if he is stealing he needs to be called on it and loudly.

  4. Mike W says:

I um… shared on George’s Wall over there on facebook. \O.O/

  5. Red Dwyer says:

With the leader…sent in from a fan. Bwahaha!

You forgot his Gov’t gig. He and Nurse Chapel are the voice of Social Security. 7.25 hours a day on the SSA channel in an office near you.

  6. Deb says:

If anyone use someone’s else ideas, or image then they should always be linked back to their site.

    • Bearman says:

      Thanks Deb…

      • Gray Dawster says:

Yes I agree with Deb now where’s my pen
I want to physically write something down,
it starts with ‘S’ has a ‘P’ and an ‘A’
in the middle and ends in a ‘Z’

Nobody should be adding work without linking
back to the original artist, it is a Spaz trick
that I am definitely not in favour of so I will
be sending the Dragons round next, maybe even a
few Zombies just to drive the point home 🙂 lol

        • Gray Dawster says:

I was going to say Dagger but that’s a bit too violent even for the Zombies, besides they just usually chew the fingers and toes off and gobble a cranium full of brains, if they can find any I mean 🙂 lol

        • Bearman says:

Now I am going to hold you to all those things…hahah

  7. Nate Fakes says:

    I’ve been victimized several times.

    • Bearman says:

And you were my inspiration but I wasn’t going to call you out in case you were uncomfortable with that.

    • George says:

I had noticed that Takei had re-posted many of your comics, but I didn’t look to see if your “info” was on there. I just, personally, recognized the work as yours and figured you had transcended to the big time. I hope people will find out who you are and come venturing to your site. I’d hate to see you have to go and Fake him up for stealing.

  8. Jim says:

    Wow.

Right after having my high fiber breakfast, I watched Sunday Morning. The first story was about a guy who seems to make a pretty good livin’ from copying other famous paintings.

He’ll copy the style and detail of each painting, right down to even ‘aging’ them so they’ll look weathered and worn.

At least he works at actually painting and running through the process of ‘seasoning’ them.

Anyways. Not sure what that story has to do with this post, but there you have it.

  9. Comedy Plus says:

Many jokes I’ve no idea who the authors are, but when I find images I always give them the credit. It’s the right thing to do.

    Have a terrific day. 🙂

  10. DadaHyena says:

    Maybe he’ll steal this cartoon?

  11. Christina says:

This is a great cartoon. I think I am going to steal it and put it on my site 😉

Seriously, he could use his posts as a forum to promote the content he shares. Hopefully his book on the subject of being a “social media icon” will credit the content creators he uses in that?

  12. G.B. Miller says:

Interesting. I subscribe/follow his page and I don’t recall him not giving other people credit for stuff that he posts.

Then again, I’m not on FB 24/7 either.

  13. frigginloon says:

I will only give credit if I know it is from the original source. There is so much pilfering and rephotoshopping now, it is hard to tell. Youtube is the worst. I have had one of my websites’ content stolen and re-copyrighted (and it was by a local government department!!!!).

    • I would have to agree with you, at least with images you can have a better possibility to find the original owner with TinEye, with words the best thing to do is to take a larger portion of text, Google it and then use the search tools to find the latest date.

    • Binky says:

Some Indian media company stole my chocolate bar image and it was ranking quite high in Google, but my original one wasn’t. I told them about it, but they didn’t seem to do anything about it. But when I just checked now, my original image is in the results, and their copy isn’t. Maybe they listened to me and took it down.

    • Bearman says:

haha And you know you can’t sue the government loon.

Then again you actually post some content someone else wants to claim??

  14. That is interesting that he wouldn’t give credit where it was due. Maybe he has thinks that because it is about him or pertain to him he does’t have to. Some celebrities aren’t the brightest either.

  15. Tony McGurk says:

Great likeness of George Takei Bearman. Excellent work as usual. I just stole something from his FB wall. I’ll G+ it wthout credit to him Bwahahahaha!!!

  16. Doesn’t that sort of thing get you kicked-out of Starfleet?!
    (Awesome likeness, Bearman…)
    🙂

  17. Bill Murphy says:

Great Characature of George Beerman! 😉

  18. Haha I would love it if George see this one and then responds 😀

  19. George Takei says:

I provide an attribution whenever I can. 99% of memes and images are posted to my wall with no verifiable origin.

    • Bearman says:

      Thanks for responding.

I agree that Meme’s and images can be tough…though I see several cartoons currently on there without attribution and the URL or name of the creator is obviously on the image.

If other’s are posting on your wall then I would make it clear that they should be providing links. It is only fair.

  20. Brian Hagen says:

    You’re right!

And the only thing that separates “take ” to “Takei” is “I.” Or me. Damn, I almost had a joke there.

  21. Try to say this not in George Takei’s voice, “Oh, my!”

  22. Jande says:

It’s like wrestling with a octopus I tell ya.

  23. I have absolutely no idea who this guy is. Is he related to the Gangnam Style guy?

  24. If this makes it to a comic con, you’ve got a hit.

  25. planetross says:

Maybe he’s using the “replicating machine”.
I hear in the future there is no theft … because there isn’t anything worth stealing probably.

  26. This is not right to use someone’s. There should be some pay out taken and may be other things taken while using someone’s. This will also become a great medium of making of virtual relationship.

  27. Tyler says:

Good call with this post. Whenever anyone fails to credit someone, they can just link to this and call it a win.
