The Stooge Remake

Mickey Mouse and Roger Rabbit in the Stooge Remake by Bearman Cartoons

Rumors are afoot that Disney/Pixar are looking at remaking The Stooge, a movie made starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis in 1952.

the-stooge-movie-poster-1952-from Movie Poster Shop I am not a big watcher of old movies but there was a time in my life when I couldn’t get enough Jerry Lewis (I guess I have some French in me). So imagine my joy when I learned that one of my favorite animated characters, Roger Rabbit, was potentially going to play the Lewis role in a Disney/Pixar remake.

So imagine my delight in reading this blog post by Gary K. Wolf that the movie was in the works.  Gary Wolf wrote the book on Roger Rabbit.  No literally he did.   Back in 1981 he wrote “Who Censored Roger Rabbit” which came to the big screen as “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”

To this day it stands the test of time as the best movie ever to combine live action and animation.  Surprisingly with technology as advanced as it has over the last 2 decades, I am surprised no one has tackled the genre much since.

So I had to draw a preview of what I hope actually gets made.  Roger needs some new younger fans before Disney puts him out to pasture.

Roger Rabbit was a really good movie and was quite unique. Though I guess Disney did the cartoon/live action thing many times before.

I must admit I liked Jerry Lewis movies too.

    • Bearman says:

True but nothing to that level. Every gimmick, every trick was done with special effects and timing and string. Now think what they could do with it with motion capture.

  2. Christina says:

I am sad nothing has been done with Roger Rabbit… Maybe this movie would be the thing…

  3. duncanr says:

Gosh, just realised how long it’s been since I went to a cinema to watch a film instead of watching it on TV or DVD

Went to see Roger Rabbit when the kids were little – really enjoyed it too, but never gone back to a movie theatre since (too mean to pay these exorbitant prices!)

Have to admit, though, I was never a fan of Jerry Lewis – in fact, the total opposite. I hated him. Found him really irritating. Never found anything remotely funny about him at all. Guess it’s a difference between what Americans and Europeans find funny. Or maybe it’s just me that’s funny? 😆

    • Bearman says:

Wow that is almost 30 years then since you have been to the movies. Go on a damn date already and take a woman you crank.

The French love Lewis. You mean difference between England and American humor.

    Bugs Bunny must be pissed!!!!

  5. I’d watch that in a heartbeat!

  6. Eheheh lovely preview. 🙂

  7. Bo Lumpkin says:

I was a big Jerry Lewis fan. I didn’t even fall off the bandwagon when he made his disparaging comment about Mississippi. (My home state.) My brother had muscular distrophy so I always admired the work he did for them.
Roger Rabbit was also good. Loved the concept and I’m with you, I don’t understand why they haven’t done more with it.
    Great comic Bearman.

    • Bearman says:

That’s because everyone talks about Mississippi. Speaking of drinking…remember when he used to stay up all night and pop shots (or at least he looked like he was) Along with his chain smoking.

      • Bo LUMPKIN says:

He had to quit chain smoking though ..they were too hard to light,
Yep. I used to sit uo for the whole thing. Several in my family have had MD so it was kind of personal.

  8. Comedy Plus says:

Let’s hope this becomes a reality. I’ll watch it indeed.

    Have a fantastic day. 🙂

  9. I loved Rodger Rabbit. It really was original for it’s time. I have always been a fan of mickey, wrote a couple term papers on him and the history of animation.

  10. Bill Murphy says:

I was suprised there never was a sequel to Rodger rabbit.

  11. bschooled says:

I think your Mickey Mouse looks better than the real one.

  12. Tony McGurk says:

Jerry Lewis was my #1 favourite comedian when I was a teenager. I haven’t seen any of his movies for many many years. I can’t remember the name of it but my favourite one was where he played the part of a bunch of Uncles to a little girl who was orphaned & she had to meet each one to see which one she’d choose to live with. Looks like this would be a great movie to see.
I agree with Loon about Bugs

  13. lisleman says:

I still enjoy youtube clips of Roger Rabbit. I guess I could check but does Roger Rabbit wear yellow gloves?

  14. David Hurley says:

Let’s hope it happens! And Roger Rabbit is one of the greatest movies of all times! Nice artwork Bearman!

  15. planetross says:

Your Mickey Mouse looks very Bearmanish … I think I’m complimenting you.

  16. Wait… it’s NOT a Wes Anderson movie… and you LIKED it?! 😉

  17. George says:

I watched “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” the other week while I was waiting for my tax preparer to finish things. Like yourself, I also wonder why there hasn’t been too much tackling of the live-action/animation thing since Paula Abdul’s “Opposites Attract” video.

I’m not too big on Jerry Lewis. Most of what I know of him comes from his tendency to ruin my last day of summer before school by blocking my TV channels for an entire day.

As I’ve gotten older (and a bit wiser), I’ve learned that his telethons are (were?) a good thing and that I shouldn’t have been so selfish. But, hey, I was a kid with one tv channel in the middle of the woods. 🙂

    • Bearman says:

We were the kids that stayed up as late as possible to watch. I hated when they went back to the local broadcast and the boring local newscasters

  18. Nate Fakes says:

Is there ANYTHING Disney won’t remake?

  19. Jande says:

Roger Rabbit is an animated movie? I should put that in my Netflix queue, so I know what you’re talking about. :`D

Jerry Lewis is one of my favourite comedians, right up there with Red Skelton, and Carol Burnett.

Nice job on The Mouse! :`D

  20. Miss R says:

Bearman, not only do I vote your art as the official poster for the upcoming movie, but I’d love to see a re-make as well. Dug Martin and Lewis as a kid.
Off to read the blog post you linked quoting Gary Wolf.

Oh, and have Roger Rabbit on both VHS and DVD. Agree with your assessment completely!

tiny print: was performing ‘Why Don’t You do Right’ in my sets way before this fave aforementioned film was released. Classic tune. Oh if only I had the voice, and looks, of Jessica 😉
Hell, if only I had the talent of yourself!

  21. DadaHyena says:

‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’ is further proof that animated films should almost always aim a little higher than the children’s heads, in that making stories and jokes that are enjoyable to adults as well. Roger Rabbit is one of the only animated features that gets even better the older you get, since you start getting those jokes and references that once were made for the parents in the audience.
