Seems some conservatives are none too happy about President Obama being reelected. Disappointment is one thing and I am sure you heard many threats from people saying they were leaving the country if Obama got reelected. Well I guess they realized that most of the rest of the world is more socialist than the United States so instead, there are several states with petitions going to secede from the United States. One of the most active is from a group in Texas, who has pulled in more than 80,000 signatures so far.
Where is this petition taking place you ask, well on the White House website of course. Seems that any group that can get 25,000 signatures in 30 days would elicit a response from the President. We’ll wait and see what he says.
Oh and some facts on illegal immigration were found here including the fact that Texas has about 16% of the illegal immigrants in the United States.
If all the petitioners would move to one state, I say go for it. Constitution be damned. All of the Congress would vote for it.

We had the same issue here in the 90′. The southern states petitioned to secede from Braziland form a new republic, but the so called movement didn’t last long.

As a proud Texan I can safely say this is not the first time such discussions have been brought up. There’s always the ongoing discussion that Texas never officially joined back to the US after the Civil War, thus still remaining a republic. My two cents are this is just a way as Texans we vent our frustrations. We’re a proud people and we aren’t ashamed to step out there tell folks what we think and how we feel. I’m sure the only response we’ll get is a blanketed statement from the puppet at the White House about “We’re all working together to improve things, please be patient with us.” The next 4 years will come and go and we’ll be none the worse nor the better for it. In Texas we still take care of our own and even if we don’t agree with how they tell us to do things from D.C. we’ll still oblige, pay our taxes, feed our children and watch out for our neighbors. That’s what we do, we survive.
im also, a resident of good ole’ tex ass….and its my opinion,,only mine now,so dont get your undies all tied in knots here…that texans do not have any more of a reson to proud of anything , than any other person living in these here united states of america. by the way,,,pride is a killer

Todd I think there is a difference between State Pride (which I feel you have) and State Arrogance that some are feeling now. It is obviously beyond Texas as the petition has gone through 20 states.
I think we deserve all of our politicians to answer our concerns but I am not sure beyond grandstanding what this group is looking for (no more than the Occupy group)
I’ll wager that there are more illegals in California than Texas. Way more. California love Obama though so they’ll stay right where they are. I’ll leave this weird state after I get done with my yacht club stuff. The taxes could kill you here. Wait, the taxes are killing us here and these loonies voted for another tax.

Your wager would be correct. And there is a similar drive in CA as in Texas but they haven’t gotten the same response as Texas.
We do tend to have boats come ashore here in Florida, but usually they’re filled with drugs – not illegals.

Maybe if they were going to do that they could have built one around the US. We needed the shovel ready jobs during the recession.
The right of secession has been part of the Constitution since it’s inception. Without it, the states have no power. Why shouldn’t the United States be a voluntary organization? If state rights had been honored in the past, you wouldn’t have had the Iraq War in the first place or the various foreign adventures that have bankrupted us.

There are approximately 26,000,000 citizens of the United States in Texas. We turned most of the counties with large cities Blue this election. Most of the border counties turned blue this election as well. What stayed Red? Well that would be rural Texas, funny that.
When Texas petitioned to rejoin the Union they gave up their right to secede. This is not the State requesting secession. This is a bunch of sore losers! This is less than .0003% of our states population. I am so tired of these whiny baby sore losers thinking they speak for the rest of us, for those of us who work, pay our taxes, contribute relevantly to our communities and work to make the world better through compromise and seeking real solutions.
I have a great solution for all of them! Pack your stuff and move to Somalia. It is the perfect spot for you. Small Government, Free Market, few regulations you will love it.

I have an idea for these secessionists. They should all move to Puerto Rico since it would be easier to make that territory an independent state.

I have never in my life encountered such juvenile behavior in adults as in this election and it’s outcome.
I do believe that any state, territory, province, or region of a nation has the right to secede from that nation for any reason–provided the majority of citizens in that state/territory/province/region desire secession (ideally by voting for it). For example, I feel that Quebec should be allowed to secede from Canada–but every time they hold an election about it, ALL Canadians are allowed to vote on it. And this isn’t fair–only the citizens of Quebec should be allowed to vote for or against secession.
That said, it would be extremely foolish for any U.S. state to secede at this time. If the majority of Texans vote for secession, I believe it is their right. But they would be setting themselves up for an invasion from another country–most likely Mexico (the Texans took that land from Mexico, in the first place).
And as I said….their Homeland Security budget would have to be astronmical. Esp with all the other people in states signing the petition wanting to get in.

Not quite sure if anyone mentioned this in the comments, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day when Texas was first admitted to the union, they had it written into their state constitution that if need be, they could actually succeed from the United States and once again become their own independent little country (this is what they were prior to joining the United States, the Repbulic of Texas).
