OK this is a twice recycled cartoon post. So I am lazy. But it is still relevant. I originally created this in 2007 before I had a blog. Reposted it in 2009 and now reposting again since half of you are new here since then. From my 2009 post:
I did this editorial cartoon about 2 years ago after an election. In the states, the landscape is cluttered with yard signs that promote candidates and issues in the month leading up to the election. While the volunteers are quick to put up the signs they are slow to remove them.
Locally we have laws that say you can’t put the signs on public property, yet no one pays any attention to that because there really isn’t a penalty for violating it.
So be a good citizen and clean up your campaign yard signs, recycle them and please STOP recycling your campaign promises.
Funny how things never change.
Unfortunately that’s true in politics the world over. The only that changes is it keeps getting worse.
You mean I can’t move to another country to escape it?

I recycled a couple of my comics from 2008. A lot of them work again for this weekend. I don’t think they’ll be of much use in 2016, though.
I never realized how much your work has progressed since you arrived on the scene. It’s incremental, but I can certainly see the growth. Keep up the fantastic work, B.

I don’t put up signs in the first place so there is nothing to take down, but all over the place there are signs. On the roads and such. I wish they would disappear as fast as their promises disappear.

Exactly…there seems to be a lull in excitement when you lose to remove the signs.
Yeah, they usually stay up around here for about 4 to 5 months after the fact.

Leaps and bounds it’s cool to see the improvement over time with your cartoons not politics! Your cartoons are so polished! I wonder what the world would be like if politicans actaully kept most of their promises?
Or at least did some polishing.
Now they’ve taken to posting “thank you” stickers to the signs of winning candidates!

The signs around here have winner stickers on them. Like a realtor sold a property or something. The losing signs are gone.
They seem to be too lazy around here.

There are corrupt lawyers, judges, cops, etc.–but no occupational group is as corrupt as politicians!

At least yard signs have sorta replaced bumper stickers. I’m tired of still seeing Festivas around town sporting “Mondale in ’84” stickers. 🙂
Those people should have been ashamed to still drive the car let alone the bumper sticker
That is one perk of living in a highrise. My whole building is free of any political signs.
No, instead they bring conventions
My Mum & Dad had one of these in their front yard once & it took ages for them to come & remove it. I asked Dad who the bloke on the sign was & he didn’t know. Some bloke just knocked on the door & asked if he could put a sign up & Dad said Yes. I asked if they got paid for having it & he said No. They want advertising they should pay the home owner.
I remember one election year there were these yard signs everywhere. In my opinion they are a real eyesore. One home owner put up a sign in his front yard protesting against a particular hot political issue, the building of a stinky polluting pulp mill in the Tamar valley where we live, and was forced by the local council to remove it. They didn’t like his anti-pulp mill message.
Double standards rule supreme!!!

That couldn’t be more accurate. We hear the same sh^t every cycle and when you look back on history, it fully explains why con-gress was never named pro-gress! [blinks]

I’m just glad the election is over. I hope President Obama will have the time (4 years is too short!) to deliver on, if not his promises, at least on some of our hopes.
