Editorial Cartoon: .XXX Marks the Spot

So it looks like all of us looking for photos of the White House on the web who accidentally went to .com instead of .gov are saved.  A new domain extension is in the works that will end in .xxx and be specific to adult oriented sites.

One one hand you have the adult industry against it because they feel it will ghettoize porn on the web.  On the other you have conservative groups against it because they feel it will legitimize porn on the web.  But one of the funniest arguments I have seen is that the practice will actually make it easier for kids to find porn on the web.  As if kids had trouble in the past.

Uh oh… Beartoons.xxx? For those dirty editorials!

  2. Jennifer says:

This is somewhere between funny and mind-numbing. People just astound me with their stupidity. If even I can find porn on the web, any twelve year old certainly can. Um…not that I look for it or anything. You know.

  3. George says:

Oh, man, that’s gonna make it way easier for me to filter out all of the coincidental-sounding names from my porn library. Now all I gotta do is go to bearman.xxx or spilledink.xxx or crowbarbenson.com and KNOW what I’m gonna see this go-round. 😀

  4. DadaHyena says:

Oh, Lordy…as long as they don’t make webcartoons have some weird codename, like “.duh”.

    Although “scapula.duh” seems rather fitting.

  5. When I was a kid, I had to walk three miles to school. Each way. In the snow. And *blah blah blah * … 🙂

  6. Corve says:

    I don’t like the idea…
But I guess someone will be benefiting ..So why not? Spread the wealth

  7. lynn says:

are you tellin’ me there’s porn on the internet? i may cut my vacation short to research this.

  8. Friggin Loon says:

It’s just an easy way for the governments that be to trace ya 🙂 Blaahahaha and kids are sexting anyhow!!!!

  9. MJ says:

Glad to see you throwing the editorial one-shots down again. I was missing the funnies from your point of view.

  10. Dear world, the extension has nothing to do with anything.
    its called a search bar.

    p.s. finally you’re back.

  11. I’m wondering if it will be possible to buy up all the good porn names and sell them back to the ‘big boys’ (pun intended) like so many people made money doing with the .coms…?

  12. Tony says:

They sure make it easy for kids these days. When I was a kid we had to steal it from the newsagents.
Here’s how you do it. Buy a comic book & before you go to pay for it slip a porn mag inside it. Don’t hand it to the newsagent so they can feel the extra thickness, just hold it up briefly & quickly hand over the money for the comic then get the hell outta there. And especially remember not to look suspicious. Worked just fine when we were kids…

    • Bearman says:

That was until they started putting them on the back shelf.

      • George says:

I recall the good ol’ days when the porn books were mixed in with the Time and Newsweeks in the drugstores when I was a kid. All you had to worry about was your parents catching you reading them while they were shopping. 🙂

        • Bearman says:

I remember one place downtown that had an entire rack of them and business men would just stand there and page through them. Perusing my MAD magazine, I could always look over their shoulder.

  13. From stealing porn mags from the corner store to downloading from the internet… they always seem to find it…

  14. Nate Fakes says:

I thought I left a comment on here earlier today, but I don’t see it?

It was just a porn flashback reference…no biggie

    • Bearman says:

      Watching it or making it?

      • Nate Fakes says:

Watching. I mentioned how back in the day, my friends and I would watch the scrambled channel that didn’t come in. BUT – if you taped it – you could play back the VHS, and every so hour get a naked chick if you hit pause or slow-mo (barely visible, in black and white and with lines cutting through it)! It took a lot of patience, but well worth it. Where’s the struggle these days for the kids for that kind of entertainment. It can’t be near as well rewarding….

  15. jill says:

porn by any other extension, will still be porn….

  16. jillsy says:

    oops…didn’t change my links.

  17. Ron-Yves says:

Legitimize porn on the web?—At last—I guess this means that I’ll finally be ‘officially jerking off’?

  18. lisleman says:

When this was mentioned in the news the other day my first thought was maybe it would worth grabbing some URL names and not even use them for porn.
I figure a blog could get more traffic by having the xxx suffix. So do you think they would force you to put porn on a xxx named page?
My first choice would be titmouse.xxx
and show pictures of the titmouse.

  19. Carlo says:

Wait wait wait… there’s porn on the web???!?!!

  20. IzaakMak says:

Will this prevent images of Sarah Palin from popping up when I search for “hot babes?”

  21. jb says:

Hey Bearman thanks for the vist and the comment. To answer your question the Frito Bandito is your favorite bag of Frito Lay pottato chips.

  22. danineteen says:

I’m not really sure what my thoughts on this is. (I’m not even sure if that was grammatically correct.)

  23. jammer5 says:

A good friend of mine once told me his twelve year old daughter had accessed porn on the net, and he and his wife didn’t know how to handle it. I said sit down and birds and bees time. He called me the next day laughing and said they did that and she told them things they didn’t know people did. I don’t know what, if anything, can be done about net porn. Giving it an .xxx could mean parents could more easily block porn, as they could now block the entire domain.

    • Bearman says:

Which is probably why the porn industry is against it. I too rely on people accidentally finding my site.

    • Friggin Loon says:

I never get porn on my computer, I have it set on high filters. The last thing I need is a friggin virus on my computer… bad enough catching one for real :(.

      • Duncanr says:

I tried setting my security filters on high but had to relax them to ‘medium’ when I couldn’t log on to your site, loon 😉

  24. Am I the only one who searches for porn by using Google Image Search?

  25. 25BAR says:

I wonder what difference that’ll make!
