All of this is unimaginable only a generation ago. What was once considered immoral, became sick, a mental illness, and then no longer sick, but slightly immoral, thenn not immoral, and now something to celebtrate. Thats a lot of progress in a few decades. Bu interestingly, plural marriage, of the type normal and moral still in Africa and some parts of the Middle East, was once universal, but now strictly taboo. It seems like the exlanatory variable here is fertility. Human fertility increases with polygamy, and decreases with ss marriage. But thats too simplistic, there must be a universal value here. ss marrige legitmizes a breach with tradition, breaking with ancient tradition of p. goes the otheer way but both affirm breaking with the evil past.
